Three kinds of class depending on the week you're having. Options cued out loud in all of them, so you can take the strong version or the quiet one without anyone noticing.

Vinyasa

Come when you want to sweat

Continuous, breath-led movement. Strong, but nobody's checking whether your leg is straight.

Yin

Come when you need to slow down

Floor shapes held three to five minutes, propped so you can actually stay. Good for stiff hips and a loud head.

Restorative

Come when you're running on empty

Almost no movement. Bolsters, blankets, an hour where nothing is asked of you. People fall asleep. That's allowed.

Maya is the first teacher who made me feel like I wasn't behind.

Lisbon time. First class is on me if you've never practised before.

If you run a studio, put a festival together, or teach something that would sit well beside yin, here's where I am at the moment. All of it is current, and I take it down when it isn't.

Messages here go through Namaspot, so I know who I’m talking to. Tell me who you are and what you have in mind.

Covering classes

Available

Short notice is fine, and I don't need a briefing. I've subbed at most of the studios in the centre and I know how to walk into a room that isn't mine.

A regular slot on your timetable

Room for one

I have space for one more weekly class, ideally a weekday morning. I bring a group with me: about sixty people come to my classes regularly and a good number would follow.

Building something together

Always

Almost everything I'm proudest of has been with someone else. Yin under Sofia's bowls has been running since spring and sells out every time. I'd like more of that.

Tell me your idea

I found yoga during a burnout year, not on a retreat brochure, in a cramped studio above a bakery in Porto. I was the stiffest person in the room by a distance and spent the first month staring at the ceiling wondering what everyone else knew that I didn't.

Ten years later that's still who I teach for. What I care about is that you leave knowing your own body slightly better than when you came in, not that you got the shape right.
