What beginners will find here

Classes that welcome people with no prior experience make up most of what is on offer in Abu Dhabi. Nearly all are marked as a first class ever, and nearly all are gentle in energy. The focus is on learning the basics safely, rather than on advanced sequences or intensity.

The classes that most clearly build from the ground up include Foundation Beginner's Lagree, which introduces the Lagree machine, the spring settings and the fundamental movements step by step. Most sessions run about 50 minutes, a length that gives beginners enough time to settle in without tiring them out.

When the classes run

Most classes take place in the morning, and the busiest start times are 7:30am, 10:30am, 11:30am and 8:30am. Around a fifth of classes are in the evening, and about a fifth fall before 9am on weekends. There are no classes at midday, so the day divides neatly into morning and evening options.

Monday, Thursday and Saturday have the most classes. Earlier starts begin at 7:30am and the latest start is at 8:30pm, which makes it straightforward to fit a first class into a busy week.

Where to begin

Open Circle Yoga in Al Bateen is where most of these classes are taught, and a handful of other studios offer the rest. Around ten facilitators lead the classes, among them Alina K, Lamis El Sayed, Nour Suleiman, Soha Nadeem, Haya Hammoud and Heba Assi.

A newcomer can start with a single class and see how the pacing feels. Very few people take these classes with a pass, so booking directly with the studio is the usual route.
