Yoga with dj and beats in Biarritz

Move to a soundtrack that carries you.

DJ and beats classes put a DJ, or a carefully built electronic set, at the center of the practice. You flow, stretch and sometimes dance to a soundtrack that builds and drops with the class. It sits somewhere between a yoga class and a night out, without the late night.

No classes scheduled in the next two weeks.

What DJ and beats does for you

The beat gives you something to ride. Movement syncs with the music, effort feels lighter when the bass carries you, and the slow tracks at the end make stillness easier to sink into. Many people stop thinking about getting poses right and simply move. You leave loose and buzzing.

It suits you if

  • you love electronic music and want to move to it sober and awake
  • regular yoga music sends you to sleep
  • you want a class that feels like a party, then lands softly
  • you go to clubs and want something on the other side of the weekend

What a class is like

Classes run 60 to 120 minutes, often in the evening or on weekend mornings. Most are vinyasa flow that builds in energy, then lands in a long, quiet rest. The DJ plays live from decks or a laptop, usually downtempo, house or organic electronica, sometimes techno, mixed to the arc of the class. It is louder than a normal class, the light is low or colored, and you will sweat in the middle part. Some events open into unguided dancing close to ecstatic dance, sober and without talking on the floor. The facilitator cues over the music with a headset mic and keeps instructions short.

Your first time

  • Wear clothes you can sweat in, and bring water and a towel.
  • Book ahead; these classes often run as events with limited tickets.
  • Arrive early to pick a spot: near the speakers is more intense, the back is easier on the ears.
  • If you are new to yoga, tell the facilitator so they can cue simpler options over the music.

Good to know

  • Volume is higher than in most classes; bring earplugs if you are sensitive to sound.
  • Many DJ classes are ticketed events with a set start time, and late entry may not be possible once the set begins.

Where it comes from

Dancing to repetitive rhythm to lose yourself is as old as music. The modern scene has a few clear roots: Gabrielle Roth's 5Rhythms, a moving meditation she developed in New York in the late 1970s, and ecstatic dance, which took shape in Hawaii around 2000 when organizers brought electronic music into sober, wordless dance gatherings.

Yoga to DJ sets grew in the 2000s and 2010s, as vinyasa studios already used playlists and festival culture mixed yoga with electronic music. Morning events such as Daybreaker, founded in New York in 2013, paired a yoga class with a sober dance party before work.

Berlin brings its own context. Techno became the sound of the reunified city after the Wall fell in 1989, in empty factories, bunkers and power stations, and in March 2024 Berlin's techno culture was added to Germany's national register of intangible cultural heritage. DJs and producers here cross easily into yoga and movement events.

Today Berlin's DJ yoga ranges from Sunday morning flows with downtempo sets to evening classes that slide into open dancing, often sharing an audience with the city's ecstatic dance and conscious dance scene.
