What the classes are

Most of the classes at bluebirds are yoga, with a clear emphasis on calm and flexibility. Yin, restorative and relax flow classes give the body room to soften, while vinyasa and flow classes add movement and breath. Pilates and Pilates Flow focus on the deep postural muscles, and Core Flow works specifically on the core and pelvic floor.

The studio also runs breathwork, meditation and sessions with sound. Yin and Breathwork combines conscious breathing with long, quiet poses, while Cacao and Nidra and the sound bath classes offer a more inward experience.

How the week runs

Most classes take place in the morning, with about a third of the timetable before noon, and the evening is the next busiest part of the day. The earliest class starts at 6:30am and the latest at 8pm. Weekend classes are fewer, and the busiest days tend to be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Classes last about an hour. Dutch and English descriptions appear side by side, and the facilitators include David Rodrigues Junior, Margaret Huzarska, Pascalle van Haaften and Paolo Meneghini, who lead many of the sessions.

Bluebirds: questions and answers

When can I practice at bluebirds?

Yes, the timetable covers a range of styles, from yin and restorative to vinyasa, flow and Pilates. Most people practice in the morning or the evening, and the earliest class starts at 6:30am while the latest begins at 8pm. Weekend classes are fewer, so it is worth checking which days suit you.

Is bluebirds good for beginners?

Yes, there are several classes that suit a calmer pace, including relax flow, restorative sessions, yin yoga and nervous system reset yoga. Relax flow warms the body slowly and then moves into restorative poses, which many newcomers find easy to follow. Yin classes ask you to stay in each pose for three to five minutes, so the pace is slow even when the body is working.

What kinds of classes are there besides yoga?

The studio offers prenatal yoga for pregnant women from their 14th week. Several classes are built around softness and breath, such as yin and breathwork, and a few pair slow practice with Yoga Nidra or ceremonial cacao. Core Flow and Super Flow bring more strength and movement, so you can choose the class that matches how you feel that day.

Are the classes taught in English?

Classes are taught in English, and each description also appears in Dutch. The studio is in the Oostelijke Eilanden/Kadijken district, close to the water. Bluebirds also has sister studios in Bluebirds West and Bluebirds Zuid, so if this location is not convenient, another one may be.
