In-Person and Online: Becoming the Altar – Refuge as a Practice of Liberation A Daylong Retreat with Rashid Hughes and Dr. Sará King Saturday, December 12th, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET In-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street, 12th Floor The path toward freedom is not walked alone. We are held by what we turn toward for refuge: the teachings, our communities, our ancestors, and the beings and places that remind us who we are. When we feel supported, our hearts can soften and open to the work of liberation. “Altars” can be physical spaces honoring ancestors, but they can also mean the place within us where we have cultivated to be a sanctuary in the midst of our lives. In this daylong, we’ll explore refuge as a living practice. Through guided meditation, collective-inquiry, and embodied practice, we’ll connect with the sacred objects that hold meaning for us and rest in the care of the guardians who accompany us through life’s challenges and joys. We’ll also discover how people and beings we consider our ancestors can serve as a source of strength and support on our paths. We invite practitioners of all experiences to join us on this daylong journey. Note: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time.
