METAL CHURCH -If you like to move heavy objects, this is for you. -If you’ve ever had headbanger’s whiplash, this is for you. -If you envision throwing thunderbolts at cars that cut you off in traffic, this is for you. -If you fantasize about running off into the forest in a cloak to be the guardian of ancient cedars while whispering arcane secrets to your triad of ravens, this is for you. -If you crave some deep physical effort that will leave you feeling blasted, calm, energized, and understood—in a class setting that values body diversity and accessibility, correct technique for safety and performance, and a supportive community of weirdos—this is for you. WHAT IT IS: 90 minutes of slow, heavy strength work and an extended cool-down/mobility sequence delivered under the punishing and cathartic sounds of Sleep, Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Kyuss, Slayer, Red Fang, Gojira, YOB, Conifer, Kylesa, Judas Priest, Sunn O))), Metallica, and others. NO PREVIOUS LIFTING OR KETTLEBELL EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. METAL CURIOUS? Unsure about the positive impacts of face-melting riffs or crushing doomsludge? According to the Journal of Community Psychology, it’s is good for mental health: “Metal [helps people] survive the stress of challenging environments and build strong and sustained identities and communities.” Note: this class prioritizes enrollment for queer/trans and BIPOC folks. Antifascist, anticapitalist, antiauthoritarian. Pro-metal, pro-strength, pro-love. COME GET WRECKED.
