Where the heat and strength gather

Kauai Hot Yoga in Lihue carries most of the heated sessions. Its classes include Hot Yoga 26&2 (Bikram Yoga), Hot Vinyasa, Hot Yoga Sculpt and Inferno Hot Pilates. Sessions run from 60 to 120 minutes, and some of the Bikram classes add music, a gong meditation or a sound bath at the end.

The Pilates side of the page is smaller and more mixed. La Vida Fitness & Wellness in Koloa offers Pilates Pulse, a fast blend of mat Pilates and sculpt, while Pilates Kauai in Kīlauea runs reformer work at an intermediate level.

How the week is shaped

Most classes take place in the morning, and about a third start before 9am. The busiest start times fall around 6:15am, 8:30am and 9am, with a smaller cluster at 4:30pm. Evening classes are rare, and the week runs busiest on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

The page is led by a couple of dozen facilitators. Garland Hume, Cheyenne Tilford and Aimee Toulon are among those with the most classes, along with Marvin Nunez, Lora Finelli and Courteney Martin.

Strong and sweaty: questions and answers

When do most people practice?

Most classes start in the morning, and about a third begin before 9am. The busiest start times are 6:15am, 8:30am, 9am and 4:30pm, and the busiest days are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Evening classes are rarer, with about one in ten falling after 6pm, and there are no midday classes.

Which studios and neighborhoods have the most classes?

Kauai Hot Yoga in Lihue leads the page, with a handful of studios sharing the rest. La Vida Fitness & Wellness in Koloa and Pilates Kauai in Kīlauea are the other two studios with the most classes. Most of the sessions are heated yoga, with some Pilates and strength work in between.

What kinds of classes are there?

Most classes are hot yoga, and Bikram yoga appears in about a third of the sessions. Vinyasa, Pilates and strength work each show up in about a fifth. Reformer and mat Pilates, power yoga, sound baths with gong and bowls, and meditation are less common.

Where should someone new to hot yoga begin?

A common starting point is the 60 minute Pilates Pulse at La Vida Fitness & Wellness, a fast-paced blend of mat Pilates and sculpt that uses light weights and resistance bands. Typical classes run about 60 minutes, though some hot yoga sessions go to 90 or 120 minutes. Pilates Kauai also offers an intermediate reformer class that runs 55 minutes.

Are these classes suitable for beginners?

Most classes are heated, and the strong, sweaty side of the page is clearly its heart. Reading the level before booking helps you choose a class that matches your experience.
