What the classes are

The studio is built around classical Pilates. Reformer classes are the main offering, with about half of the schedule given to them, and mat Pilates fills about a fifth. Reformer Plus, Level Up Reformer and Pilates Circuit give you more options as you progress, while Straight Up Mat (In Person) keeps the focus on the floor.

Classes are concentrated at midday and in the morning, with starts between 10am and noon. Monday, Thursday and Friday are the busiest days, which makes these the days to book early if you want a particular class.

Who leads and how to start

Molly, Erika Davis-Marsh, Julie and Hector teach the most classes at the studio. Each brings their own way into the work, so it is worth trying more than one to find the facilitator whose pace and cueing suit you.

For a first visit, the studio website at phoenixclassicalpilates.com lists the current classes and times. Booking is done directly with the studio.

Phoenix Classical Pilates: questions and answers

When do most people practice here?

Most classes run at midday, with the rest in the morning. Starts range from 10am to noon, and each class runs about 50 minutes, so it fits well into a lunch break or a morning before work.

What kinds of classes are offered?

Pilates is the practice at the center of the schedule, and nearly every class is Pilates. Reformer classes make up about half of what is on, and mat Pilates makes up about a fifth. Reformer Plus, Level Up Reformer and Pilates Circuit are among the classes listed, along with Straight Up Mat (In Person).

Who leads the classes?

Molly, Erika Davis-Marsh, Julie and Hector lead the most classes here. Ask the front desk which facilitator suits your level before you book your first class.

Where is the studio and how do I book?

Phoenix Classical Pilates is on Wilshire Boulevard in Downtown Santa Monica. The studio website is phoenixclassicalpilates.com, and you can book directly there.

Is this studio suitable for beginners?

Reformer work has a spring-based carriage that you can adjust in resistance, so the class can be as light or as demanding as you need. Mat Pilates uses your own body weight and a mat. If you are new to Pilates, mat classes are a gentle place to begin before moving onto the reformer.
