About BBA Family

BBA Family is a dance studio in the Hackenviertel, a short walk from Stachus in the center of Munich. Its classes are built around ballet, with a clear split between classical and pointe work and a steady rhythm of evening sessions. Most of what you will find here is for people who already dance, and the workshops are where the longer, more demanding work happens.

It suits you if

  • you already have a ballet practice
  • you want evening classes after work
  • you enjoy longer variation workshops

Ballet at every level

The studio's timetable centers on ballet. Classical classes run at several levels, from beginners and returning dancers through to intermediate and advanced, and pointe classes appear alongside them at the intermediate level. Most sessions last 90 minutes, while the pointe classes last an hour.

For a more focused experience, the variation workshops take a single piece of repertoire and work through it in depth. The Don Quixote workshop is built around the Dryad Queen variation from Act II, and the La Bayadère workshop works on Nikiya's entrance from Act I. Both begin with a barre and a warm-up before moving into the variation, and both are open to dancers with or without pointe shoes.

Where and when it runs

The studio is located in the Hackenviertel, close to Stachus and the city center. Most people practice in the evening, and the busiest times are 7pm and 8:45pm. The busiest days are Saturday, Monday and Sunday, so weekend practice is a regular part of the week here.

Classes are taught in German, and sessions are led by a team of about ten facilitators. Alexey Dobikov and Vladimir Stadnik teach many of the regular classes, while Monica Merlo, Peter Jolesch and Ina Bures lead other levels and styles.

BBA Family: questions and answers
