What the classes offer

Pilates forms the core of these classes, and reformer work is the most common style. Some sessions add infrared heat, which gives the practice a warmer, more intense feel. Barre and strength-focused classes appear in smaller numbers, and a few concentrate on flexibility or balance.

Ayla Pilates Roma on Via Sicilia offers a good range of these classes, including Mat Sculpt with infrared heat and Flow and Tone, which builds deep core work through continuous movement. Ramo in Ludovisi adds barre and power mat sessions, some held in Italian and others in English.

When to practice

Morning and midday sessions make up most of the schedule, with busy start times around 9am, 10am, 12:30pm and 1:30pm. Thursday, Monday and Wednesday are the days when the most classes run. Evening and weekend sessions are fewer, and a small number begin as early as 7am.

Since the classes are short, the collection suits a session before work or a midday break. Facilitators here include Alba T, Laura Guarisco, Sarah Polito and several others, so you can find a teacher whose style suits you.
