Live music in Rotterdam
In Rotterdam, live music classes mostly mean yoga with a DJ or beats running through the practice. Nearly every class is vinyasa flow, so the sound sets the pace of the movement rather than sitting in the background. The classes are concentrated in a few studios and neighborhoods, which makes it easy to compare what each one offers.

What the classes are
Almost every class in this collection is yoga, and nearly all of them are vinyasa flow. The difference is the sound: a DJ or beats play through the session, and some classes are built around the music from the start. The result is a practice that feels closer to a flow session with a soundtrack than a quiet studio class.
Because the classes share a format, the facilitator and the studio shape the experience more than the style does. Each class runs about 75 minutes.
Where and when to practice
Balanzs Rotterdam in Stadsdriehoek and Balanzs & Pilatezs in Hillegersberg Zuid have the most classes here. Both neighborhoods are where most of the sessions gather, so it is practical to choose a studio close to home or work.
Classes start as early as 9am and as late as 8pm. Mornings and evenings each account for about a third of the schedule, with a smaller share at midday and on weekends.
Live music: questions and answers
What kind of classes are these?
Most of the live music classes here are yoga, and nearly all are vinyasa flow with a DJ or beats playing under the practice. The sound is part of the class rather than an add-on, so the music moves with the sequence.
Which studios should I look at first?
Balanzs Rotterdam in Stadsdriehoek and Balanzs & Pilatezs in Hillegersberg Zuid have the most classes. Both are good places to start if you want to see how the format works before trying other studios.
When do most people practice?
Classes run from 9am to 8pm, and the busiest start times are 8pm, 10:30am, 1:30pm and 5pm. About a third of the classes fall in the morning, about a third in the evening, and about a fifth at midday. Friday, Tuesday and Saturday are the busiest days.
Can I book with a pass, and how long is a class?
Yes. Classes typically last 75 minutes, and about a third of them can be booked with Urban Sports Club or ClassPass. A flow class with a steady beat is a reasonable first step if you already know a little vinyasa.
Who leads the classes?
A handful of studios and about ten facilitators lead the classes, including Gozde Eyce, Andre-Louis de Villiers, Shanna Brandsma and Cecilio Lopes. Because many classes are vinyasa flow, the facilitator's style and the music will shape how each session feels, so it is worth looking at a few before you choose.
