About Santa Cruz Athletic Club

Santa Cruz Athletic Club sits on Soquel Avenue in Santa Cruz and offers a large schedule, with well over a hundred classes in the next few weeks. Its strongest pull is strength and energy work: more than half the classes are labeled strong, and a third focus on strength itself. Yoga, pilates and barre sit alongside this, so the studio suits people who like a physical, sweat-filled session in the morning or early evening.

It suits you if

  • you want strength work before your workday
  • you enjoy hot, sweaty sessions
  • you like to move in a structured Pilates or barre class

When classes run

The week leans toward early starts. More than half of the classes begin in the morning, and about half start before 9am, beginning as early as 6am. The most common start times are 7:30am and 8:30am, with a second cluster around 5:30pm and a midmorning option at 9:45am. Evenings are present too, with the latest start at 6:45pm. Midday and weekend classes are fewer, each about one in ten of the schedule.

What the classes are

Strong classes lead the schedule, with strength and sweat-based work close behind. Power Yoga, Hot Yoga Sculpt and Hot 26 bring the heat and intensity into the yoga side, while RedRoom Hyb-RED HIIT and Build x Burn show the more cardio-focused options. Pilates appears as Hot Pilates and Pilates x Strength EXP. Calmer practice is limited, with a few yin and restorative classes in the mix. Most classes run about an hour, with some shorter 45-minute formats and Vinyasa Flow at 75 minutes.
