New parents in Seattle

Seattle has a focused set of postnatal and parent-and-baby classes, and most of them are yoga. Many are built for the parent and child together, with some labeled pre-crawler or crawler-friendly so the age of your little one shapes your choice. The classes sit mostly in the morning, and a handful of studios across a few neighborhoods keep the schedule steady through the week.

Yoga and parent-and-child practice

Most of the classes here are yoga, and a good number are built for parents and babies to practice together. Aditi Yoga and Wellness Studio in Wallingford leads the collection, with Postnatal Yoga, Baby and Me Yoga, and classes for crawlers and waddlers. Limber Yoga in Gatewood offers Limber Babies, and Woven Yoga in Maple Leaf runs its own Baby and Me Yoga.

The set also reaches beyond yoga. Barre and Mat Pilates appear at Aditi Yoga, and Strong classes are a smaller part of the mix. Seattle Insight in the University District holds a Children's Mindfulness Circle, where singing and stories bring parents, grandparents and little ones into one room.

When classes run

Morning is the center of this collection. Most classes begin between 8am and noon, and the busiest starts cluster around 10am, 10:30am, 11am and 12:15pm. Midday has a share of classes, and early evening has only a few. Very few begin before 9am, and the latest starts are around 5pm.

The busiest days for these classes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Weekend options are limited, with about one in ten classes on Saturday or Sunday, so a weekday morning is the most reliable time to practice here. Most classes run about an hour, and some shorter sessions last 45 minutes.

New parents: questions and answers

Can I bring my baby to class?

Yes. Most of the classes in this collection are yoga, and many are labeled as baby or pre-crawler friendly, so a baby can usually be on the mat or nearby. Aditi Yoga and Wellness Studio in Wallingford offers the largest set, from Postnatal Yoga with or without baby to Baby and Me Yoga. Check the class name for the age the studio has in mind before you book.

When do most new-parent classes run?

Most classes start in the morning, and the busiest start times fall between 10am and 12:15pm. Mornings are where most of this collection sits. Afternoons and early evenings have fewer options, and very few classes begin before 9am. The latest starts are around 5pm, so a late-day slot is possible but limited.

Which studios should I look at first?

Aditi Yoga and Wellness Studio in Wallingford has the most classes in this collection, and Limber Yoga in Gatewood, Woven Yoga in Maple Leaf and Seattle Insight in the University District each have their own. Limber Yoga offers Limber Babies, Woven Yoga offers Baby and Me Yoga, and Seattle Insight runs a Children's Mindfulness Circle for parents and grandparents with little ones.

Are these classes suitable for someone recovering from birth?

Many of the classes are labeled postnatal, and a few are marked as beginner-friendly or for the early months. Postnatal Yoga at Aditi Yoga and Wellness Studio is a gentle place to start if you are recovering from birth. Classes are usually about an hour long, and some are 45 minutes, so you can choose a length that fits your energy.

What kinds of classes are included?

Most classes here are yoga, and a smaller number are Barre, Pilates, Mat Pilates and Strong classes. A few are meditation, such as the Children's Mindfulness Circle at Seattle Insight. Many classes are designed for the parent and child together, while a few are for older children. Read the class description to see how much movement or stillness to expect.
