New parents in Stuttgart

Stuttgart has a focused set of postnatal and parent-and-child classes, with most of them in the morning. You can practice yoga or Pilates in studios across the city, and many classes are designed for the weeks after birth. Some welcome babies on the mat, so you can move with your child beside you.

Where to start: Mamagold | Pilates für Schwangere & Mamas in Rosenberg, NAMOTOYOGA in Rosenberg or BASI Pilates Studio - Stuttgart in Rathaus

It suits you if

  • you want a morning class you can reach after drop-off
  • you want to rebuild core strength and the pelvic floor
  • you want to bring your baby along to the mat

What the classes cover

Most of the classes here are postnatal, and more than half are for parents with a baby. Core and pelvic floor work runs through many of them, and Pilates and yoga split the rest. Many classes focus on the body that has just given birth. Some stay gentle, while others build strength more directly, so you can pick the energy that suits your week.

The classes are mostly in the morning, and many begin around 10am or 10:30am. A few run in the evening, with the latest start at 8:15pm. Weekend options are limited, so most parents plan around weekdays.

Studios and places to practice

Rosenberg is home to Mamagold and namotoyoga, two studios with many of these classes. BASI Pilates Studio sits in Rathaus, OM Yoga Stuttgart in Rotebühl, MATTENGOLD in Wangen and Yoga Loft Süd in Lehen. Around a couple of dozen facilitators lead the classes, and a few teach across several of these studios.

Mamagold focuses on Pilates for pregnant women and mamas, while namotoyoga splits its postnatal yoga by baby age. Both are good places to begin if you want a clear path through the early months.

New parents: questions and answers

Can I bring my baby to the classes?

Yes. Most of these classes are postnatal, and more than half are parent and child classes, so you can often bring your baby along. At namotoyoga there are two postnatal yoga classes with babies, one for babies aged 3 to 9 months and one for babies from 9 months. At Mamagold, the Rückbildungspilates course is a paid course that starts 8 weeks after a vaginal birth or 10 weeks after a cesarean section.

When do most people practice?

Mostly in the morning. Most of the classes run then, and busy starts cluster around 10am, 10:30am and 11:05am. A few evening classes run too, with a start at 8:15pm, but there are none at midday or before 9am. Weekend classes are very few, so weekdays are where most of the choice is.

Where should I start after giving birth?

Start with a postnatal class that matches your stage. The namotoyoga postnatal classes are split by baby age, and the Mamagold Rückbildungspilates course is built for the weeks after birth. Yoga and Pilates both appear here, so you can choose by what feels right for your body. Check the class descriptions before you book.

Can I use a sports pass for these classes?

Some of the classes accept passes. About a fifth of them can be booked with Wellpass, Urban Sports Club, Wellhub or ClassPass. Others are booked directly with the studio, and some are paid courses, so check the booking details on the studio's own page.

Which neighborhoods have the most classes?

The classes are spread across several neighborhoods. Rosenberg and Rathaus have a good share of the classes, and Rotebühl, Wangen and Lehen have others. Mamagold and namotoyoga, both in Rosenberg, offer a lot of classes, while BASI Pilates Studio is in Rathaus and OM Yoga Stuttgart is in Rotebühl.
