What the studio teaches
Sinclair Studio offers two disciplines. The Alexander Technique teaches improved posture, coordination and ease of movement for everyday life and performance, with a focus on reducing tension and building body awareness. Pilates at the studio is described as a mindful system of movement that builds strength, flexibility and body awareness.
Most of the classes are Pilates. The studio's example classes include a group Pilates class, an advanced Pilates group class and an Alexander Technique group class, each about an hour long. The studio also runs Thinking in Action open classes, which last two hours.
Who the classes suit
Most classes are centered on the core and the pelvic floor, and they are generally strong in feel. About a fifth are pitched at experienced students, and a few welcome all levels. The studio does not offer passes, so each class is booked on its own.
The Alexander Technique and Pilates classes sit alongside teacher training programs. These are hands-on courses for people who want to teach either discipline, and graduates leave with the knowledge and practical tools to teach in their chosen method.
