This intensive weekend is designed for aerialists and performers who are ready to deepen their creative practice and move beyond the foundations of the Vertical Theatre Method. Where introductory VTM workshops invite you to discover that aerial can be more than a series of beautiful shapes, to become comfortable being seen, connect with authentic performance, and unlock new creative possibilities—this master class is about developing those discoveries into a more sophisticated artistic practice. Over two days, we'll dive deeper into the craft of performance, presence, collaboration, and creation. Morning Sessions (10:00am–1:00pm): Ensemble Devising Each morning focuses on ensemble-based exercises and collaborative devising. Through improvisation, creative problem-solving, and group exploration, we'll investigate how relationships, space, timing, and shared intention can transform performance. You'll be encouraged to challenge your instincts, expand your creative range, and discover new approaches to generating original material with others. Lunch Break (1:00pm–2:00pm) Afternoon Sessions (2:00pm–5:00pm): Deepening Your Solo Practice Afternoons are dedicated to developing your individual artistic voice. Rather than concentrating on tricks or choreography alone, we'll explore practical tools for creating nuanced, expressive, and compelling solo work. Through intention, character, emotional specificity, imagery, and theatricality, you'll discover ways to bring greater depth and clarity to your aerial performance. This workshop is for performers who want to create work that communicates, not simply demonstrates. Who Is This For? This masterclass is NOT for “intermediate/advanced” aerialists only. But for aerialists of all PHYSICAL level, but with interest to go deep with the creative work. This master class is ideal for students who have previously attended a Paper Doll Militia Vertical Theatre Method workshop, as well as performers with experience in acting, devised theatre, dance theatre, circus, or other movement-based performance disciplines. Participants should arrive with curiosity, a willingness to experiment, and a desire to stretch their creative practice.
