What the classes are
The collection is led by yoga and strength. More than half of the classes are yoga, and about half are strength-focused. Hot yoga is the most common style, with about a third of the classes, while Pilates makes up another third. Vinyasa and power yoga appear less often, and a few classes focus on core and pelvic floor work.
The strong and sweat labels describe the energy of the classes. Many sessions in this collection are designed to build heat and muscle, and the sculpt classes at Ember Hot Yoga and the SSP Sculpt and SSP Strength classes at South Slope Pilates show that approach clearly.
Where and with whom
Ember Hot Yoga has the most classes in the collection, and the studio spreads its sessions across the week. Asheville Yoga Boutique in Downtown Asheville and Good Mood in the River Arts District round out the studios with the most sessions.
Downtown Asheville, Black Mountain and the River Arts District hold most of the classes. Dozens of facilitators lead them, and Naedra Fox, Jessi Rae and Bre are among those who teach the most sessions in the collection.
Most classes run in English, and none of the classes in this collection requires a pass.
Strong and sweaty: questions and answers
How long are these classes?
Most of the strength-led classes here run about an hour or less, with many of them at 50 minutes. Ember Hot Yoga leans to 60-minute sessions, and South Slope Pilates and Cherry Street Movement Studio tend toward 50 minutes.
Can I drop in without a pass?
Yes. Several studios offer community drop-in rates of $10, including Ember Hot Yoga, which lists a $10 drop-in on its hot vinyasa, yoga sculpt and hot sequence classes. The classes here are not sold as passes, so drop-in is a simple way to try one.
When can I practice?
Yes, the collection runs from early mornings through to evenings. Classes start as early as 6am and as late as 8pm, and the busiest start times are noon, 8:30am, 10am and 5pm. More than half of the classes fall in the morning, and about a fifth come before 9am.
Which studios should I look at first?
Ember Hot Yoga has the most classes in this collection and offers hot sculpt, hot vinyasa, yoga sculpt and hot sequence sessions. South Slope Pilates in Downtown Asheville is known here for its SSP Sculpt and SSP Strength classes, and Cherry Street Movement Studio in Black Mountain offers Warm Sculpt, a Pilates-inspired class built on controlled, choreographed sequences.
Who are these classes good for?
Many of these classes suit people who enjoy working hard and sweating, and the collection leans toward yoga and strength work, so it may appeal most to those who like both. Hot yoga and sculpt classes are the most common styles, and the level tag "experienced" appears in only a few. Pilates-based strength classes like SSP Sculpt are a good match for people who want controlled, focused movement.
