Desk body in Charleston
Charleston's desk body classes gather around the places a day at a desk tends to tighten: the back, neck, shoulders and hips. Most of them are slow and floor-based, with yin and gentle yoga leading and a few somatic sessions focused on posture. Yoga Daily on the Isle of Palms and Dwell Somatic Studio in North Charleston hold most of these classes, many of them open to all levels.

Slow practice for the hips and spine
Most of these classes are yin or gentle yoga, held as long, passive floor poses. They work the hips, pelvis, inner thighs and lower spine, and many are labeled all levels. Yoga Daily runs the bulk of them, both in its studio and as home classes, so the same practice can be followed in either setting.
The hips come up often. Some classes focus on building strength and mobility through the hips, and others concentrate on the spine with stress, compression and stretch in longer holds.
Somatic work for posture and shoulders
Dwell Somatic Studio in North Charleston offers somatic classes aimed at posture and stiffness, with a shoulder-specific session for the neck and shoulders. These run about an hour and suit people who want more precise attention on how their body is held during the working day.
Classes are spread across the morning and evening, so a visit can fit before or after a desk job.
Desk body: questions and answers
Which studios in Charleston offer desk body classes?
Yoga Daily on the Isle of Palms offers the most of these classes, mostly in yin and gentle yoga, with a few hip-focused strength and mobility sessions. Dwell Somatic Studio in North Charleston offers somatic classes aimed at posture, stiffness and the shoulders.
Are these classes suitable for beginners?
Most of these classes are marked all levels, so they work for people new to yoga or to somatic movement. Yin and gentle classes ask for little effort and hold poses for a long time, which makes them easy to begin with.
When do most of these classes run?
About half of the classes start in the morning and about half in the evening, with few in between. The earliest start is 9:30am and the latest is 6:45pm. Busier days tend to be Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, and roughly a fifth of the classes fall on weekends.
How long are the classes?
Most classes run about an hour, and yin and candlelit sessions often run 75 minutes. The yin and hip classes at Yoga Daily are examples of the slower, floor-based work that suits a long day at a desk.
What kinds of classes are these?
Yin classes at Yoga Daily hold long, passive floor poses that work the hips, pelvis and lower spine. Somatic classes at Dwell Somatic Studio focus on posture, stiffness, and shoulder-specific movement. Both kinds ask for slow, attentive practice rather than strength.
