How the weekend mornings run

Most of the weekend classes start in the morning, and the busiest start times cluster between 8am and 10am. Early starts from 7am are available for those who want to practice before the rest of the day, and the latest classes begin around 10:45am. Typical classes run about an hour, with some Pilates and strength sessions closer to 50 or 55 minutes.

Saturday and Sunday carry most of the schedule, so the weekend is the natural time to plan a practice here.

What you can practice

Yoga leads the list, with vinyasa flowing through many of the mornings. Pilates is close behind, including reformer and circuit formats. Smaller sets of classes lean toward strength, gentle and slow flow, hot and infrared yoga, yin, and meditation.

The Mat at The Works Renew, Vinyasa at Get Move Breathe, Solar Vinyasa at Park Circle Yoga Studio, and Traditional Reformer at Temple Pilates are good examples of what a weekend morning can hold.

Weekend mornings: questions and answers

When do weekend morning classes start?

Most of the morning classes in Charleston run on Saturday and Sunday, and nearly all of the weekend classes start in the morning. Many begin around 9am, 9:30am or 10am, with some as early as 7am and the latest starts near 10:45am. A class usually runs about an hour.

Are there weekend morning classes for beginners?

Yes, a good number of the weekend morning classes are built for people who are new to practice. Several studios list all-levels classes, and some offer a first-class-ever option. Gentler flow and slow flow classes are also part of the mix, so a first morning can be unhurried.

What kinds of classes are on weekend mornings?

Yoga makes up about a third of the weekend morning classes, with vinyasa close behind and Pilates taking about a fifth. You will also find reformer work, strength, yin, hot and infrared yoga, and a few meditation sessions. The mix leans toward flowing movement, so most mornings start with breath and build from there.

Where can I practice on weekend mornings in Charleston?

Several neighborhoods have a lot of weekend morning classes, including Charleston itself, Isle of Palms, Mount Pleasant, Wappo Heights and North Charleston. Studios such as The Works - Downtown, The Works Renew, Get Move Breathe and Be Wild Yoga offer classes across these areas, so there is usually a short ride to a morning practice whichever side of the city you are on.
