About Embody Wellness

embody wellness sits in the oval area of london and gives pilates and yoga equal weight on its timetable. The classes move from precise pilates and barre-style strength work to slow yin, restorative and sound sessions. Many of the classes are built around how the body moves through the day, from mobility and stretch to breathwork and meditation.

It suits you if

  • you want Pilates and yoga in one place
  • you are new to movement and want a gentle start
  • you practice around midday or after a morning start

Pilates and yoga at the core

The studio offers a steady mix of pilates and yoga, with each taking about a third of the classes. Pilates runs from level 1 to 2 sessions through dynamic and bodycare pilates, while yoga includes flow, gentle and yin styles. Barre fusion and a strength and flexibility class add a different kind of work for those who want more structure.

There is also a clear route for newcomers. A first class ever sits alongside gentle yoga, chair yoga and mobility and stretch classes, so the start is easy to find.

How the week runs

Most classes run for 60 minutes, with 45-minute sessions also common. The busiest days are monday, wednesday and thursday, and midday carries the largest share of the week, with mornings close behind. Evenings are less crowded and weekends are a smaller part of the schedule.

Facilitators lead the classes, and a couple of dozen teach across the timetable. Tim Chew, John Hobbs, Susie Lovelock and Heather Hepburn lead many of the sessions.

Embody Wellness: questions and answers

Is embody wellness mainly pilates or yoga?

Yes, pilates is one of the two practices that lead here, with yoga taking about the same share of the timetable. Classes run from a level 1 to 2 pilates session to dynamic pilates and bodycare pilates, so there is a choice of pace.

Are there classes for complete beginners at embody wellness?

Gentle yoga, chair yoga and a first class ever are among the options that suit people new to movement. Gentle yoga runs for 45 minutes, and chair yoga keeps the practice seated, which many people find easier to start with.

When do most people practice here?

Many classes start in the late morning and around lunch, with 10am, 12:15pm and 1:15pm among the most common start times. Evenings are quieter, with the latest class starting at 7:15pm, and the earliest starts at 9:30am.

Do they have classes for pregnancy or with a baby?

Mother and baby, postnatal, prenatal and parent and child classes are all part of the timetable. They sit alongside the regular pilates and yoga sessions, so you can choose a class that fits where you are in your life.

How long are the classes?

Most classes run for 45 or 60 minutes. Morning flow is the longest at 75 minutes, and yin yoga with sound therapy also runs for 75 minutes, which makes it the session to plan time around.

Who leads the classes?

Tim Chew, John Hobbs, Susie Lovelock and Heather Hepburn are among the facilitators with the most classes. Sarah Lovelock, Flo Christensen and Allie Williams also lead a regular part of the timetable.
