Teachers and what they teach
The studio is run by a small group of facilitators, about ten in all, and a handful of them lead most of the schedule. Nare Nazaryan, Nareh Ghaderimasihi, Elina Stepanyan, Liz Campbell, Christine Saiyan, Edgar Matevosyan and Kristina H teach the most classes, so you can find a familiar voice across the week.
The classes range from dynamic flow to slow, supported work. Vinyasa Flow links breath to movement and builds heat. Iyengar Yoga and Healthy Spine Yoga focus on alignment, sequencing and the use of props. Restorative and Yin classes hold poses for longer and move more quietly.
When classes run
Evenings are the center of the week, with more than half of the classes starting then. Morning classes make up about a third of the schedule and begin as early as 7am. Weekend classes are fewer, about one in ten. The busiest days are Thursday, Monday and Wednesday.
Most classes run 60 minutes, and the longer ones run 75 minutes. Nothing requires a pass, so you can book a single class and see how the space feels before committing to more.
Darman Yoga & Wellness: questions and answers
When do most people practice at darman yoga & wellness?
Most of the classes here run in the evening, with a smaller group in the morning and a few at midday. The earliest start is 7am and the latest is 8pm, and the busiest start times are 6:30pm, 8pm, 11:30am and 10am. Thursday, Monday and Wednesday are the days the studio fills most.
Is it good for beginners?
Yes. Most of the classes are open to all levels, and about a fifth are marked as first class ever. Mixed Vinyasa Flow is built for a mix of experience levels, and Grounding Stretch & Restore is gentle enough to start with.
What kinds of yoga are offered?
Vinyasa is the style you will find most often, with about half the classes built on it. Vinyasa Flow, Mixed Vinyasa Flow and Vin/Yin + Reiki are good places to begin. Iyengar Yoga and Healthy Spine Yoga are more about precise alignment and use props, while the Ashtanga classes follow a set sequence.
Are there classes with sound?
Candlelight Yin & Sound and Vinyasa Flow & Gong Meditation both finish with sound, using gong and bowls in the way a sound bath does. Candlelight Yin & Sound is an evening practice, and the gong class is designed for all levels.
How long are the classes, and where can I find the schedule?
Most classes at darman yoga & wellness last 60 minutes, and some longer ones run 75 minutes, including Iyengar Yoga, Ashtanga Mixed Series and Candlelight Yin & Sound. The studio is in Sparr Heights on Foothill Blvd, and its own website, darmanyogaandwellness.com, has the full schedule for a first visit.
