Calm after work in Marseille
Marseille has a steady set of evening classes for coming down from the day. Nearly all of them are slow, grounded yoga, with yin, restorative work and a few sound baths between them. Most start between 5pm and 7:30pm, so you can step out of work and onto the mat without much in between.
Where to start: Toulouse Yoga Asthanga - Savasana in Le Canet, Holys Espace Yoga Marseille in Périer or Gaïa Yoga Studio in Castellane
It suits you if
- you want to slow down after work
- you like long holds and quiet breathing
- an evening class in French or English fits your week

What the classes are
The collection is built around yin and yoga practices that ask for stillness. Yin Yoga shows up at several studios, including Shakti Shala, where the 60 minute class invites you to hold postures and go deeper into the body. Holys Espace Yoga Marseille offers Yin Yang Yoga for 75 minutes, which pairs the slow hold with a little more movement.
You will also find Hatha and Breathwork classes, and a Hatha Morning Flow at Bloom Yoga Studio that is built on postures, breath and meditation. Ashtanga and Vinyasa appear too, but these are the more energetic corner of the collection and sit alongside the calmer work.
When and where they run
The evening starts run from 5pm to 7:30pm, and the busiest times are 5:30pm, 6pm, 6:30pm and 7:30pm. Monday, Tuesday and Friday are the days when most classes run. The Kiez where most of these classes gather are Le Canet, Périer, Palais de Justice and Castellane, with Toulouse Yoga Asthanga - Savasana, Holys Espace Yoga Marseille, Shakti Shala, Gaïa Yoga Studio and Bloom Yoga Studio hosting most of the sessions.
Most classes last around 75 minutes, so a session fits neatly between work and dinner.
Calm after work: questions and answers
When do most people practice?
Most classes start in the evening, between 5pm and 7:30pm, with the busiest starts around 5:30pm, 6pm, 6:30pm and 7:30pm. Mornings, middays and times before 9am are not part of this collection, so a class here fits the end of the working day.
Are there classes in English?
Nearly all of these classes are taught in French, and a few are in German. About a third are in English, so there is room for those who prefer to follow in English.
Is this collection good for beginners?
Several studios offer classes that suit all levels, and more than half of the classes in this collection are labeled that way. Gentle sessions like Yin Yoga at Shakti Shala, which runs 60 minutes, give the body room to settle without asking much of it.
Can I use a pass to book these classes?
Wellpass and ClassPass are both accepted, but only about one in ten classes can be booked with either. Most people book a single class directly with the studio.
Which classes are the most calming?
Yin Yoga and Yin Yang Yoga at Holys Espace Yoga Marseille, which runs 75 minutes, ask you to hold postures for longer and slow everything down. Sound baths at Bloom Yoga Studio and Gaïa Yoga Studio use bowls and gong, and Bloom's session runs 60 minutes.
Where are these classes held?
Most of these classes run in Le Canet, Périer, Palais de Justice and Castellane. Toulouse Yoga Asthanga - Savasana in Le Canet and Holys Espace Yoga Marseille in Périer have the most classes in this collection.
