New parents in Miami

Miami's classes for new parents are mostly Pilates, shaped around the postnatal body. You can practice before or after a baby arrives, with prenatal and postpartum classes, and a few that welcome little ones into the room. Most classes are in the morning and many fall on weekends, with three studios and neighborhoods doing most of the work: Douglas Park, Orchard Park and Downtown Coral Gables.

Where to start: Mat & Maternity in Downtown Coral Gables, Pandora Pilates & Physical Therapy in Douglas Park or Trybe 8 in Orchard Park

It suits you if

  • you are returning to movement after birth
  • you want to practice with your baby beside you
  • you prefer gentle, pelvic floor focused Pilates

What the classes are

Most classes here are Pilates, and many are designed for the postnatal body. Classes focus on breathwork, pelvic floor awareness and deep core connection, to help bring stability back to the body. Prenatal Pilates at Mat & Maternity is for all mamas, and that class is postpartum friendly too.

Some classes are for parents and children together. At Trybe 8, Music + Movement: Trybe Tots is for moms with walking babies or toddlers, with movement, music and exploration for the little ones. Mini & Me Pilates at Mat & Maternity welcomes caregivers and infants with babywearing.

Where and when to practice

Most classes start in the morning, and the busiest start times are 10:30am, 11am and 3:30pm. Midday classes make up about a fifth of the week, and the weekend carries about a third of the classes, with Friday, Saturday and Sunday the busiest days. Classes run around 50 minutes.

Pandora Pilates & Physical Therapy in Douglas Park, Trybe 8 in Orchard Park and Mat & Maternity in Downtown Coral Gables are the three places where most of these classes are held.
