What the classes are

Yoga is the core of the schedule, and it runs across most of the week. About a third of the classes are marked all levels, which makes this a comfortable place to begin or return to practice. Classes in the all levels range often take place at jaya church, a sister space that appears in several class names.

The mix goes beyond standard yoga. Strength and mobility classes, joints and mobility work, and mobility and stretch sessions each take a share of the timetable. Yin yoga and restorative classes slow things down, and pilates sculpt and yoga for strength bring a more active feel.

How the week runs

More than half of the classes start in the morning, and about a third begin before 9am. The studio is most often busy at 8am, 10am and 6pm, with 7:30am a common early start. Evening classes are fewer, and the latest class starts at 6:15pm. Weekends hold about a fifth of the schedule.

Tuesday, Friday and Sunday are the busiest days. Facilitators such as Ramit Kreitner, Carla Stangenberg, Teri Gandy-Richardson and Nikki Calonge lead many of the classes, and a team of about ten facilitators keeps the schedule running across the week.

Jaya Yoga: questions and answers

Is jaya yoga good for beginners?

Most of the classes at jaya yoga are yoga, and about a third are marked all levels, so a newcomer has plenty of choice. The all levels classes, including the ones held at jaya church, are the easiest place to start. Facilitators like Ramit Kreitner, Carla Stangenberg and Teri Gandy-Richardson lead many of the classes, so you can look for their names when you book.

When do most people practice at jaya yoga?

Most classes start in the morning, and about a third begin before 9am. Common start times are 7:30am, 8am and 10am, with the latest class beginning at 6:15pm. Tuesday, Friday and Sunday are the busiest days, so those are often the easiest to find a spot.

What kinds of classes can I take at jaya yoga?

Yes. Alongside the yoga there are classes in yin, mobility and stretch, strength, pilates and meditation, plus japa meditation and shorter meditation sessions of about 20 minutes. Yin yoga at jaya church runs about 70 minutes, and a pilates sculpt class runs about 60.

How long are the classes?

Most classes at jaya yoga run about 60 minutes, and the meditation sessions run about 20. Some longer classes, such as the all levels class at jaya church, run 75 minutes. Classes are taught by a team of about ten facilitators, so the length and feel can vary a little from class to class.
