About Chula Vista Yoga Center

Chula Vista Yoga Center has been in Chula Vista since 2002, which makes it one of the longer-standing yoga rooms in the city. The timetable is built around all levels yoga, with vinyasa and flow classes at the center and quieter yin, restorative and meditation sessions alongside them. It is a place to practice steadily, whether you are new to the mat or have been coming for years.

It suits you if

  • you want all levels classes with variations
  • you prefer morning or evening practice
  • you enjoy steady vinyasa flow

What the studio teaches

The studio at 255 E St gives most of its time to yoga, and the core of the timetable is vinyasa and all levels classes. Flow classes make up about a third of what is offered, and the vinyasa classes give a clear rhythm of breath and movement from one posture to the next.

Around that core are the slower and stronger options. Yin Yoga and Deep Rest Yin ask you to hold postures and settle in, while Restorative and Deep Stretch and Breathwork focus on calm, mobility and breath. For more energy there are Rocket, WARM Power Yoga and Power Hour Vinyasa, and Strength and Balance Flow combines strength work with balance.

How the week runs

Most classes run in the morning or the evening. A little under half start before noon, and about half of the day's options come in the evening, with the busiest starts at 6:30am, 9am, 6:30pm and 5pm. Tuesday, Thursday and Monday tend to have the most classes.

Many people practice before work or after it. Weekend classes are fewer, making up about a fifth of the timetable, so planning a weekend practice is worth doing in advance. The earliest class begins at 6:30am and the last at 7:45pm.

Chula Vista Yoga Center: questions and answers

Is it good for beginners?

Yes. Most classes are marked all levels, and more than half of the timetable is open to everyone. Newer students are welcomed, and there are variations for every body, so a first class can be gentle without being empty.

What kinds of yoga are taught here?

Vinyasa is the most common style, with flow classes and a steady stream of yin, restorative and power yoga. Rocket, WARM Power Yoga and Dharma Yoga Wheel Flow stand out as the more energetic options, while Yin Yoga and Deep Rest Yin are the quiet ones.

When do most classes run?

Most classes start in the early morning or the evening. A 6:30am start is among the earliest, and 7:45pm is the latest, so the day can begin or end on the mat. Mornings and evenings each hold about half of the classes, and weekend classes are fewer.

Who leads the classes?

Maria, Saira, Athena, Susie, Stephanie and Henry lead a good number of the classes, with Ashley, Mira, Moises and Devon also teaching regularly. The studio has a couple of dozen facilitators in all, so there is room to try different voices.

How long are the classes?

Classes usually run about an hour. Many are 60 minutes, with some 45-minute breathwork sessions, 75-minute yin and flow classes, and 90-minute all levels classes. Meditation sessions are shorter, at around 30 minutes.
