The reformer practice

Indigo Pilates is built around the reformer. Pilates is the practice at the heart of almost every class, and most of the timetable is strong reformer work, with Reformer One and Reformer Two as the main classes. The studio also runs Gentle Reformer One and Gentle Reformer Two for a slower, lighter pace.

Nearly every class works the core and pelvic floor, so that focus runs through the whole schedule. Most classes run 55 minutes.

The shape of the week

Morning is the center of the week here. About half of all classes start before noon, with busy start times at 9am, 10am and 11am. There are also classes in the early afternoon and at 4pm, and the latest class begins at 7pm. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday are the busiest days.

For a first visit, the Intro to Reformer One Series is two 45 minute classes, a practical way to get used to the equipment before joining the main timetable.

Indigo Pilates: questions and answers

What kind of classes does Indigo Pilates teach?

Indigo Pilates offers Pilates on the reformer, with its Reformer One and Reformer Two classes at the center of the timetable. Most classes are 55 minutes long, and the studio also runs a 45 minute intro series for people new to the reformer.

Is there a class for someone who has never done Pilates before?

Yes. The studio has an Intro to Reformer One Series of two classes, and it also runs Gentle Reformer One and Gentle Reformer Two, which move at a slower pace than the strong classes. Most of the timetable is strong reformer work, so the gentle options are the ones to look at first.

When do most people practice here?

Most classes start in the morning, with the earliest at 8am. The busiest start times are 9am, 10am and 11am, and there are also classes in the early afternoon and at 4pm. The latest class begins at 7pm, and the busiest days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

What does a typical class focus on?

The timetable is built around the core and pelvic floor, so almost every class works those areas. The strong reformer classes are the largest part of the week, and the gentler ones are a smaller share, so the core and pelvic floor focus runs through the whole schedule.

Where is the studio and who leads the classes?

The studio is at 1557 Palos Verdes Mall in Walnut Creek. It is a small studio with a handful of other locations in the area, and a team of about ten facilitators leads the classes. Debora Goveia, Shabnam Hagen and Kelly Callahan lead the most classes.
