About Rossmoor Fitness Center

Rossmoor Fitness Center sits on Tice Creek Drive in Walnut Creek, a fitness space with a strong Pilates side. Reformer and mat work make up a large share of the week, alongside strength, core and pelvic floor classes that give the studio a steady, grounded feel. The practice is built around a day that starts early and runs through the middle of the day, with a handful of experienced facilitators who return to the same classes week after week.

It suits you if

  • you want reformer and mat work at a steady pace
  • you prefer mornings and midday classes
  • you are working on core, back or pelvic floor strength

What the studio practices

Pilates is the center of the timetable here. Reformer classes are offered at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, and the mat classes give the same work without equipment. Alongside them sit strength circuits, functional strength classes built around bone health, and core and pelvic floor work, which together make up much of what the studio teaches.

The studio also keeps a few yoga, barre and mobility classes on the schedule, including advanced yoga and a gentle restorative option. These are fewer in number, but they give the week a slower counterpoint to the reformer work.

How the week runs

The week is strongest in the morning. Early starts from 6am and a busy run of classes through the late morning mean most people practice before the middle of the day. Midday classes fill a good part of the schedule, while evening classes, which end the day with starts as late as 6pm, are fewer.

Facilitators such as JO NASH, BOB HUFF, Tracy Perrilliat, Ashley Harrison and Terry Hummel lead many of the classes, so a regular can settle into one teacher's style over time. Club classes such as basketball and pickleball sit in the same space for members.

Rossmoor Fitness Center: questions and answers

Is this studio a good place to start if I am new to Pilates?

Yes. Most of the classes are Pilates, and the reformer classes run at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, so a first visit can start at the beginner reformer class. Pilates mat classes and a handful of yoga and gentle classes sit alongside them.

When do most people practice here?

Mornings carry the most of the week. About half the classes start before noon, and about a fifth begin before 9am. The busiest start times are 8am and 11am, and the busiest days are Monday, Thursday and Friday. Evening classes are fewer, with the latest start at 6pm.

What kinds of classes does the studio offer?

Pilates is the largest group, with reformer and mat classes making up about a third of the timetable. Strength, core and pelvic floor, and back-focused classes also come up often, along with a few yoga, barre and mobility classes. Several classes are built around bone health and balance, and some are open to members only.

How long are the classes?

Most classes run 50 to 55 minutes. Abs and back classes are shorter at 30 minutes, and sports classes such as club basketball run longer, at around two hours.
