What the classes are

The studio runs a set of yoga and Pilates classes across the week. Mat Pilates, vinyasa flow and yin yoga are among the regular offerings, and power yoga brings a stronger, faster pace. Strength and core sessions, including HIIT/Pilates, give another option for those who want to move with more intensity.

The classes are built around the rhythm of the working week. Most sessions fall in the morning or the evening, with the busiest start times at 7:30am, 9:30am, 5:30pm and 7:30pm. Midday is quiet, and weekends carry a smaller share of the schedule.

Who leads and who it suits

A couple of dozen facilitators lead the classes, with Puja Chance, Treana Ferarro, Bianca Pugh and Ben Rader among those who teach the most. Many sessions are open to all levels, and a few are set up for people taking their first class. Most classes run around an hour, so they fit easily before or after a day at work.

Because the studio sits inside a climbing gym in Twin Lakes, the practice here suits people who already spend time moving in the building. It is a practical place to add yoga or Pilates to a routine that already includes climbing.

Pacific Edge Climbing Gym: questions and answers

What kind of place is Pacific Edge Climbing Gym?

Pacific Edge Climbing Gym is a climbing gym at 104 Bronson Street in the Twin Lakes neighborhood of Santa Cruz, and its yoga and movement classes run in the same building. The classes lean toward yoga and Pilates, with a few strength and core sessions alongside them.

Are there classes for beginners?

Yes. Several of the classes are marked for all levels, and a smaller set are labeled as a first class ever. Mat Pilates and All Levels Flow are good places to begin, and the flow and yin sessions give a slower entry into the practice.

When do most people practice here?

Most of the classes fall in the evening and the morning, with about half in each. Start times cluster around 7:30am, 9:30am, 5:30pm and 7:30pm, and the earliest class begins at 7:30am while the last one starts at 7:30pm. Midday has no classes.

Which days are busiest?

Classes are busiest on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. About a fifth of the classes fall on weekends, so the schedule leans toward the working week.

How long are the classes?

Most classes run 60 minutes, and the power yoga and vinyasa sessions run 75 minutes. Basic Safety is the longest listed at 120 minutes.

What kinds of classes are offered?

Yoga is the largest group, with Pilates close behind, and the classes often focus on the core and pelvic floor. Vinyasa, yin, power yoga and restorative sessions give room for different paces, and strength sessions such as HIIT/Pilates add a more energetic option.
