Synergy Dance Fitness sits in Rio Del Mar, just outside the center of Santa Cruz, on Soquel Drive in Aptos. The studio is built around movement that blends dance, strength and mobility, so a visit can mean a ballet barre one day and a Pilates-based core session the next. Most of its classes are held in the morning, which suits anyone who likes to practice before the day begins.
It suits you if
- you like to dance and move to music
- you want strength work with a dance feel
- you prefer morning practice before work

What the studio teaches
Dance runs through much of the studio's timetable. Ballet appears at several levels, from Beginning Ballet I and Level II Beginning Ballet to Intermediate Ballet, which runs for 90 minutes. Alongside these are Latin Dance Fusion, Cardio Dance, Contemporary and Golden Burlesque, so there is room for different kinds of movement and different moods.
Strength and body-focused classes make up the rest of the picture. Functional Strength Training, Core Sculpt and Stretch, and Total-Body Pilates Mash-up work on the core, the hips and the joints, and there are gentler options such as Restorative yin and mobility and stretch sessions for those who want something slower.
How the week runs
Most classes take place in the morning, with a steady share at midday and in the evening, and only a small number before 9am. Weekend classes are few. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday are the busiest days, and the classes that start at 9am, noon, 10:15am and 5:30pm draw the most people.
Because the studio works with about ten facilitators, the classes change hands often, and several facilitators lead a regular set of sessions across the week. Newcomers can start with a beginning ballet or a stretch-based class and move up as they feel ready.
