In Studio - Ashtanga (Led full primary series) Description The Ashtanga Primary Series, or the "first series," is the foundation of the six-series Ashtanga Yoga method. While it’s called "Primary," this does not mean it is exclusively for beginners; rather, it serves as the starting point for exploring the Ashtanga practice. This dynamic practice links breath with a set sequence of postures, including standing and seated poses held for five breaths each, as well as backbends, inversions, and savasana. During this class, you’ll be guided through the entire primary sequence. If a posture feels unfamiliar or challenging, you are warmly encouraged to rest, observe, or explore a modified version. As you practice, we invite you to shift the focus from how a pose looks to how it feels. Effort in yoga is not about achieving a perfect shape but about finding balance between effort and ease. Signs that you are in this balance include steady breathing, a relaxed face, and engaged but not strained muscles. Only you can truly know what effort feels right for your body in this moment, and what development feels meaningful for your practice. This class is a wonderful opportunity to build strength, flexibility, and endurance while cultivating mindfulness and focus. While the pace may be faster than some vinyasa classes, it’s an enriching way to explore postures and transitions that deepen your connection to the Ashtanga method. If you’re curious to explore more, we also recommend attending our Intro to Mysore Ashtanga workshop, where you can dive deeper into your personal practice. This class is taught in both English and Sanskrit, offering a grounding and authentic experience.
