What the practice looks like

Most of the schedule is yoga, in several forms. Flow classes give a moving, breath-led practice, while yin and restore classes ask you to stay in shapes longer and move less. Pilates appears in mat and core formats, often with a focus on the core and pelvic floor. A few classes add a short meditation at the end, and a handful of somatic and release classes work more slowly with sensation.

Classes are about an hour long, and several are built around a starting point. Yoga basics introduces the postures and the breath, and a first class ever is set up for people who have never practiced before.

How the week runs

The studio's morning classes start as early as 7am, and a sunrise yoga flow is part of that early run. Mornings are the strongest part of the week, and the evening schedule is steady, with starts commonly around 6pm and the latest class beginning at 7:30pm. Midday classes are fewer, with noon being a common start time.

Tuesday, Monday and Wednesday carry the most classes, so these are the days with the most options to choose from. Weekend classes are fewer, making up about a fifth of the schedule.

Grace Studios: questions and answers

How long are the classes?

Most classes at grace studios run about an hour. There are also a few longer ones, including a yoga basics class that pairs with a 15 minute meditation, so the full session is closer to 75 minutes.

What kinds of classes are offered?

Yoga leads the schedule, with flow, pilates and core classes following. Most classes are yoga, and flow and pilates appear often enough to make up a steady share of the week. Gentler options such as yin, restore and somatic sit alongside them, and there are a few meditation and vinyasa classes too.

When do most people practice here?

Classes start as early as 7am, and a sunrise yoga flow is part of the mix. Mornings carry about half the week's classes, and evenings about a third. Many classes begin around 9:30am, 10am or noon, and the most common evening start is 6pm. Weekends have a smaller share of the schedule.

Is grace studios good for beginners?

Yes. Several classes are built for beginners, including yoga basics and a class for people taking their first class ever. Gentle yoga flow and restorative classes are also available for a slower pace. A handful of classes are open to all levels.

Who leads the classes?

Michele Russ, Lenore Fusciello Baker, Sun Kim and Suzanne Muro lead some of the most classes, followed by Ana Lincoln, Rachel Henry, Jennifer Brennan, Amy Langevin, Ashley Erickson and Jade Olubayo. The studio has a couple of dozen facilitators in total.
