How the Friday evening works
The evening rhythm is the thread through this collection. Nearly every class falls between late afternoon and evening, and the busiest starts come at 5:15pm, 5:30pm and 6pm, with a few later at 7:30pm. Most sessions run about an hour, so a 5pm class can finish in time for a relaxed evening.
The studios that carry most of these classes are TAC Fitness, Studio Pilates International Superior, Alchemy of Movement in Boulder Junction, and Studio Pilates International Boulder in Sale Lake. Kinetic Pilates in Washington Village, Care To Pilates in Boulder Junction and Mecha in Goss-Grove add to the mix.
What the classes are
Pilates leads the collection, with reformer sessions alongside more mat-based and strength-focused work. Yoga appears in smaller numbers, including the 75-minute Earth Ways Yoga. Dance and beats show up in the choreography and music-led classes at Alchemy of Movement, where a rotating group of teachers keeps each session fresh.
The Friday classes are built to end the week with movement rather than stillness. Several are described as high energy, and some are designed for the full body with weights, so they work well when you want to sweat and let the week go.
Friday release: questions and answers
When do Friday release classes start?
Most of the Friday classes start in the evening, from 5pm to 7:30pm, with the busiest starts at 5:15pm, 5:30pm and 6pm. Nearly all the classes in this collection fall in the evening, so a Friday after work is the natural time to practice here.
What kinds of classes are on offer?
The collection leans toward Pilates, with about a fifth of the classes in that practice. Reformer classes, yoga and strong, high-energy sessions each make up about one in ten, with a few classes in dance-led beats, core and pelvic floor work, strength and balance. Most sessions run about an hour, and the typical class is 60 minutes long.
Which studios and neighborhoods are involved?
Boulder Junction has Alchemy of Movement and Care To Pilates, both in the neighborhood. Sale Lake is home to Studio Pilates International Boulder, Washington Village to Kinetic Pilates, and Goss-Grove to Mecha. TAC Fitness and Studio Pilates International Superior also hold many of these Friday classes.
What does a Friday class feel like?
Alchemy of Movement offers a choreography class inspired by fire, taught by a rotating cast of teachers, so each session brings a different flavor of dance. Studio Pilates International Boulder describes its reformer workout as a full-body session of about 40 minutes with motivating music. Earth Ways Yoga, at 75 minutes, is one of the longer slower options in the collection.
Who are these classes for?
Several of the Friday classes are described as high energy, and some are built around beats, weights or choreography rather than stillness. The reformer and Pilates sessions are full-body and challenge both strength and balance, so newcomers may want to start with a plainer option. The studios' own descriptions tell you the level each class expects.
