Deep rest in Lyon
Deep rest in Lyon is a collection of slow, floor-based practice: restorative postures held with props, yin poses kept for several minutes, and yoga nidra, the guided lying-down practice that brings the body and breath to stillness. Nearly all of these classes take place in the evening, when the day has already been full. Most sessions last an hour, so the collection works well as a reset before going home.
Where to start: L茅a Yoga Lyon in Gros Caillou, Cocon Yoga in Les Girondins or Annao-Yoga in Gros Caillou
It suits you if
- you want to end a full day slowly
- you prefer lying down and long holds
- you are new to yoga and want gentle work

What deep rest looks like in Lyon
Most of the deep rest classes are yin or restorative yoga, with yoga nidra woven in across a good number of them. A restorative class uses bolsters, blankets and blocks to support the body, so each posture can be held without effort. Yin poses are held for several minutes on the floor, which gives the connective tissue a long, steady stretch. Yoga nidra sessions guide you through a body scan and slow breathing while you lie still.
Some studios combine these styles in one session. At L茅a Yoga Lyon, a vinyasa class moves through a flowing sequence before handing over to nidra, so the body is warmed and then settled. Zenspace Yoga's Friday Flow mixes vinyasa with restorative work, a gentler way to close the week.
Where and when to find these classes
Gros Caillou has the most classes in this collection, with L茅a Yoga Lyon and Annao-Yoga both offering evening sessions there. Les Girondins is home to Cocon Yoga, and Chevreul holds Zenspace Yoga. Across the collection, about ten facilitators lead the classes, and L茅a Gauthier, Rada Simiot, Anna, Elise Grosjean and Anne-Lise Viault teach the most of them.
Weekends are quieter here, with only about a fifth of the classes falling on a weekend. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday are the busiest days, so those evenings are the easiest to find a spot in. Many people who come to deep rest attend once or twice a week, keeping a steady evening rhythm.
Deep rest: questions and answers
What is yoga nidra and is it part of these classes?
Yoga nidra is a guided practice done lying down, where you follow a voice through body awareness and slow breath. Most classes in Lyon's deep rest collection pair it with a restorative or yin session, so the practice moves from gentle postures into stillness.
When do most people practice deep rest in Lyon?
Several of the deep rest classes run in the evening, and the earliest start in this collection is at 6:15pm. Most people practice between 6:15pm and 8:05pm, with 6:30pm and 7pm among the common start times. Classes are an hour long on average, and some combined sessions run 75 minutes.
Which studios should a newcomer look at first?
L茅a Yoga Lyon in Gros Caillou has the most classes in this collection, including a yin with nidra and a vinyasa with nidra that pairs a dynamic first half with a longer rest. Cocon Yoga in Les Girondins and Annao-Yoga in Gros Caillou also offer restorative and yin classes. Zenspace Yoga in Chevreul runs a Friday evening class that mixes flow and restorative work.
Are these classes good for beginners?
Yes. Yin and restorative classes are built around long, supported holds and gentle movement, so they suit people who are new to yoga. The vinyasa and nidra combinations move more and suit people who already feel comfortable with flowing sequences.
How do I choose between restorative, yin and nidra classes?
Lyon's deep rest classes are mostly taught as yoga, and the practice is the main thread across the collection. Many classes use a few terms you will see often: restorative, yin, yoga nidra, and flow. Read the class description before booking to see how much movement to expect.
Can I use a pass for these classes?
About a third of these classes can be taken with a Wellpass, which is worth checking before you book. The rest are usually paid directly with the studio, so it is a good idea to look at each studio's booking page.
