What the classes are

Pilates is the main practice in this collection, and reformer work is its most common form. Classes like Reformer Sculpt at Control Pilates and Fitness, Peak Reformer at WA Health Group and Basic Reformer at The Pilates Centre WA sit side by side with mat classes and yoga. Strong, flow and sculpt classes add more energy to the timetable.

Levels run from first class ever to experienced, with a good number of all levels sessions. The Pilates Centre WA and Oak Pilates offer several options across the week.

Where and when to practice

The Pilates Centre WA, The Yard Gym East Fremantle, Control Pilates and Fitness, Heartbeat High in Cottesloe and Oak Pilates are among the studios with the most classes. Most of the classes sit in the Margaret River area, where the schedule is concentrated. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the busiest days, and the earliest start is at 5am.

Short and sweet: questions and answers

What kinds of short classes are there in Margaret River?

Most of the classes are Pilates, with reformer work making up about a third of the timetable. Mat Pilates, yoga, breathwork and mobility classes appear too, but far less often. Strong, sculpting and flow classes run alongside the gentler ones.

When do most short classes start?

Classes start as early as 5am, and most of the day's schedule sits in the morning. Many begin between 6am and 9am, with 6am, 7am, 8am and 9am the busiest start times. Evenings are quieter, with about one in ten classes running in the evening.

Are these classes suitable for beginners?

Yes. Several classes are labelled for all levels, and some are for first-time students. Pilates classes such as Basic Reformer and All Levels Reformer at The Pilates Centre WA are a natural place to begin.

How long are the classes?

Most classes run for about 50 minutes, and some are 45 minutes long. So the collection is a short session rather than a one-hour practice, which fits neatly into a morning or a lunch break.

Which studios offer the most short classes?

The Pilates Centre WA, The Yard Gym East Fremantle, Control Pilates and Fitness, Heartbeat High in Cottesloe and Oak Pilates all offer a number of short classes. Proactive Pilates and Exercise Rehabilitation and Young 4 Life also run classes of 45 minutes.

Can I find short classes before work?

Nearly all of them. Most of the short classes sit in the morning, and busy starts cluster from 6am to 9am. Weekends have only a small share of classes, about one in ten.

Do I need a pass to take these classes?

Most of the short classes are taught in English, and none of the classes in this collection need a class pass. You can book a single session directly with the studio. The facilitators with the most classes include Kate Conroy, Sammy McNamee and Melika.
