Noosa has a quiet evening side to its practice. This collection gathers the slow classes that start after work: yin, yoga nidra, gong and bowls, and sound baths, mostly in the early evening. It is a good set to return to when the day has been full and the body needs to come down. The classes are spread across Noosaville, Coolum Beach and Noosa Heads.

What the classes are
Most of these classes are yin, a slow floor practice in which postures are held for a long time and the body is allowed to relax into them. Alongside it you will find yoga nidra, a guided lying down practice, and a smaller number of sound baths and gong sessions. Hot yoga appears too, but it is one of the less common styles in this set.
The classes tend to run for about an hour. The Yin Sound class at Zenko Yoga Noosa is built around the connective tissue, the ligaments, bones and joints, rather than the muscles, which makes it gentle on a tired body.
When and where to practice
The early evening is when most of these classes happen, with starts between 5:30pm and 6:15pm. Thursday, Monday and Tuesday are the busiest days, and a few sessions run at weekends.
Zenko Yoga Noosa in Noosaville, Coolum Beach Yoga in Coolum Beach and Aloha Active in Noosa Heads have the most classes. Each of them keeps a steady evening timetable, so a session fits between work and dinner without much planning.
Calm after work: questions and answers
What kind of classes are in the calm after work collection?
Most of the evening classes here are yin, yoga nidra or sound based, and they settle the body and the mind after a working day. The Zenko Yoga Noosa and Aloha Active sessions are slow and floor based, so they suit a tired evening.
When do the calm classes start?
Nearly all of them start in the evening. Starts run from 5:30pm to 6:15pm, with 6pm and 5:45pm among the most common. Thursday, Monday and Tuesday have the most classes.
Is this a good place for beginners?
Yes. The Community Yin and Yoga Nidra class at Zenko Yoga Noosa is open to anyone and everyone, and the Hot 26&2 class at Coolum Beach Yoga is listed as beginner friendly. Most of the classes here are around an hour long.
Which neighborhoods and studios should I look at first?
Mostly in Noosaville, Coolum Beach and Noosa Heads. Zenko Yoga Noosa in Noosaville, Coolum Beach Yoga in Coolum Beach and Aloha Active in Noosa Heads have the most classes in this collection.
What makes these classes calm rather than energetic?
The collection is built around yin, yoga nidra, gong and bowls, and sound baths. These slow, floor based practices are about letting go of the day, while a smaller number of hot yoga classes bring more movement and sweat.
How long are the classes, and who leads them?
Most classes are around an hour, and a small share of the evening classes run in English with a range of levels. Several facilitators lead these sessions, including Rene Goetjes, Nicky Grimsdale and Robyn Singh.
