What the studio offers
The studio is on Shaw Street in Bexley North, a quiet residential area in Sydney's south. Most of its classes are reformer pilates, with a clear emphasis on strength through the core and pelvic floor. The style is structured and steady rather than gentle, and sessions are usually around 50 minutes.
Denise Karras and Mellissa Melhem lead the largest share of the classes, and the timetable is spread across a handful of facilitators. Athletic Reformer Pilates (all levels) is a good example of the studio's approach: a strong session that is still open to anyone starting out.
How the week runs
More than half of the classes start in the morning, and about a third begin before 9am, so early risers have plenty of choice. Peak starts cluster around 6am, 7am, 9:15am and 5:30pm. The evenings are quieter but still present, with classes running as late as 6:30pm.
Weekends carry only a few classes. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are the busiest days, which makes the start of the working week the most active part of the timetable.
AXYSPilates: questions and answers
When do most people practice at axyspilates?
Most classes at axyspilates run in the morning, with more than half of the timetable starting before noon. The earliest start is 6am, and a good number begin around 7am or 9:15am. Evening classes are fewer but still a steady part of the week, with the latest start at 6:30pm.
What kinds of classes does axyspilates offer?
Nearly every class is a reformer pilates session that focuses on core and pelvic floor strength, and most are open to all levels. A few sessions are yoga or restorative classes, which give a slower counterpoint to the strength work. Denise Karras and Mellissa Melhem lead the largest share of the classes.
How long are the classes at axyspilates?
Classes are typically 50 minutes long. Athletic Reformer Pilates (all levels) and Align & Restore are two examples of what the studio runs, and both are built around that length.
Is axyspilates a good place to start if I am new to reformer pilates?
Yes. Most classes are marked all levels, so a first session fits well for someone new to reformer work. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are the busiest days, and that is a sensible time to book if you want a wider choice of starts.
