The classes and how they are arranged

Room for Movement offers a focused range of reformer classes, mostly open to all levels. ALIGN is the core open level class, moving at a steady pace to condition the core and the whole body while the reformer supports the work. ALIGN PLUS adds more load for people who want a step up without yet moving into ENHANCE, which works through more complex intermediate repertoire at a flowing pace.

When the week runs and who leads

Morning classes make up more than half of the timetable, with a good number starting before 9am. Evenings are the second busiest part of the day, and weekends account for about a fifth of classes. Friday, Saturday and Tuesday are the busiest days, and 9:30am and 6:30pm are among the most common start times.

The studio is led by about ten facilitators, including Cherrie, Rachael, Natalie, Kara and Jen, who teach most of the timetable between them. The studio's website describes the space and the people, and is a good place to check the current week before you visit.

Room for Movement Pilates Studio: questions and answers

Is this studio suitable for complete beginners?

Most classes are open to all levels, and the studio also runs a beginner class called FOUNDATIONS. It is built to lay the basics of core control and strength with control, so it is a good place to begin before moving on to the others.

What is the difference between ALIGN, ALIGN PLUS and ENHANCE?

Most classes are the open level kind, so you can take them whether you are new or have a steady practice. ENHANCE is the intermediate option and ALIGN PLUS adds more load for people who already know ALIGN well.

When do most people practice here?

Classes run in the morning, with more than half of the timetable starting before noon. The earliest class begins at 6:30am and the latest at 6:30pm, and the busiest start times are 7am, 9:30am, 5:30pm and 6:30pm.

How long are the classes and what should I bring?

Classes are 50 minutes long and take place in Studio Two at 1A Crystal St. Socks are mandatory for every reformer class, and each class is capped at six or seven people.

Is there something gentler on the timetable?

Yes. NOURISH is a gentle stretch and release class that moves slowly through stretches, flowing sequences and soft tissue release. It is a good choice when you want to ease tight or sore muscles without a demanding session.

Where is the studio and how do I book?

The studio is at 9 Crystal St in Petersham. Its website is roomformovement.com.au, where you can see the classes and book directly.
