About Kitchener Waterloo

Kitchener Waterloo is a yoga studio at 826 King Street North in Waterloo, with most of its classes in heat. The schedule runs from early mornings through the evening, and the hot power, deep flow and music-led classes give each session a clear sweat. A smaller set of restore, yin and kids classes sits alongside, so the studio also works for slower days.

It suits you if

What the classes are

The studio's week is built around hot yoga, which makes up nearly all of its classes. Power yoga is the most common style inside that, with names like hot power yoga, hot power yoga jam and hot deep power. Hot deep flow and hot ambient power classes give the same heat a slower rhythm. Yoga in general is about half of the schedule.

The rest of the week leans toward restore classes and a few unheated yin classes, along with a small number of kids classes. Those sit at the quieter end of the timetable.

When and with whom

About half of the classes start in the morning and about half in the evening, with almost none at midday. Around a fifth start before 9am, and a fifth fall on weekends. The busiest start times are 6:30am, 8:30am, 9:30am and 6:30pm.

The facilitators who teach most often include Denise, Halle, Steph, Jeff, Jess, Jen, Kristina, Antonia, Lorena and Emma, and the studio has a couple of dozen facilitators in all. Most classes run about an hour, with a few 45-minute express options.

Kitchener Waterloo: questions and answers

What kind of classes do most people take here?

Most of the classes here are hot yoga, and the hot classes are the bulk of the week. Several are labeled as power yoga, so the pace is usually lively. Restore, yin and a few kids classes sit alongside, so there is room for slower practice too.

When do most people practice at this studio?

Classes start as early as 6:30am and run as late as 8pm. Mornings and evenings each take up about half of the schedule, and the busiest start times are 6:30am, 8:30am, 9:30am and 6:30pm. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays tend to be the fullest days.

Are there classes for children?

Yes. A few kids classes run here, including Little Pretzels Kids Yoga for ages 4 to 7. Most of the schedule is aimed at adults.

Is this studio suitable for beginners?

Restore and yin classes are part of the mix, and an unheated yin class is listed. Many of the hot classes are labeled as deep flow or express, which can help when you are starting out. A 45-minute express class can be an easier first step than a full hour.

How long are the classes?

Most classes run about an hour, and a handful are shorter 45-minute express sessions. A few classes are marked with music, such as power yoga with music, and one is an ambient power yoga class, so the sound changes from session to session.
