What the classes are
Hot yoga is the core of this studio, and most of the classes carry it in their names: hot hatha, hot yang/yin, hot freedom flow and hot tone and sculpt, among others. Many classes are built around sweat and strength, with names like hot absolutely burning butts and hot resist it. For a slower pace, there are yin, hot candlelight deep stretch and relaxation, and classes aimed at sleep and calm.
The studio also offers barre, pilates and a smaller number of power yoga and core and pelvic floor classes. Some classes focus on specific areas, such as neck and shoulders or flexibility.
How the week runs
Classes start as early as 6am, and about a third of the schedule falls in the morning. Midday and evening each take roughly a fifth, and weekends take about a fifth too. Classes typically run 45 minutes, while longer sessions run 60 minutes.
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday have the most classes, and the last starts come as late as 10pm.
Oxygen Yoga & Fitness - Bur Oak Markham: questions and answers
Is it all hot yoga, or are there gentler classes?
Most of the classes here are hot yoga, so the room is heated and the pace keeps you moving. A few are gentler, like hatha, yin, and the candlelight deep stretch and relaxation class, which run more slowly.
When do most people practice here?
Classes run from 6am until 10pm. About a third start in the morning, and the busiest start times fall at 7:15am, 9:45am, 10:45am and 7:45pm. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday carry the most classes.
Who leads the classes?
Yes, there are several. Shakiba, Anurag, Gen, Nesrin, Ayshan, Trisha, Rana, Maryam, Regiba and Carla lead the most classes, and the studio has a couple of dozen facilitators in total.
How long are the classes, and how do I choose one?
Many classes run about 45 minutes, and others, like hot hatha and the candlelight deep stretch and relaxation class, run 60 minutes. Class names tell you a lot, so look for barre, strength, sleep or neck and shoulders if you want something specific.
