About Joy of Yoga

joy of yoga is a studio in Holbrook, just outside Boston, where most of the classes are yoga. Vinyasa, power yoga and warm vinyasa sit alongside strength work, barre and a few hot classes, so the week can be steady or more demanding. Classes start early in the morning and run into the evening, with a clear pattern of dozens of sessions a week.

It suits you if

  • you want strong, sweaty yoga
  • you prefer mornings or early evenings
  • you want yoga combined with strength work

What the classes are

Most of what happens here is yoga. Vinyasa and power yoga are the core, and warm vinyasa is there for anyone who prefers a gentler heat. Strength is the second thread: Yoga and Weights, Full Body Strength, Full Body Tone and Power Yoga & Sculpt all bring resistance into the practice. Barre/Sculpt and Dance and Define add a different rhythm, and Power Flow (Hot) Yoga adds heat for those who want it.

How the week runs

Classes begin as early as 6:30am and finish as late as 7:15pm. Mornings and evenings each hold about half of the schedule, and weekend classes make up about a fifth. The busiest start times are 9am, 6pm, 7:15pm and 8am. Most classes last 60 minutes, and a few run longer. Classes are offered in one studio at a time, and the shape of the week stays consistent.

Joy of Yoga: questions and answers

Is Joy of Yoga good for beginners?

Yes. The classes are a mix of yoga, strength and barre, so a beginner can start with a beginner yoga class or a gentle option and move up from there.

How long are the classes?

Most classes run at 60 minutes. Power Flow (Hot) Yoga is the longer one at 75 minutes.

When do most people practice here?

Most of the schedule falls in the morning and the evening, with about half of the classes in each. Nothing is scheduled at midday, and the busiest start times are 9am, 6pm, 7:15pm and 8am. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays carry the most classes.

Who leads the classes?

Sarah Cartullo, Barbara Rae, Barbara Comoletti and Kelsey Darling lead a good share of the classes, and Joy Fienberg, Allison Noble, Isabella Richard, Jill Dolimpia, Holly Hazelton and Julia Giurleo lead others.

Where is Joy of Yoga?

The studio is on Union Street in Holbrook. Its classes are at the second floor of the building.

What kinds of classes are on offer?

Power Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga are among the most common styles, and there is a warm version of vinyasa too. For something stronger, Yoga and Weights, Dance and Define, Barre/Sculpt and Full Body Strength combine movement with resistance and sculpting.
