About InBalance

InBalance is a boutique Pilates studio in Halstenbek, just outside Hamburg, built around Reformer Pilates. The machine is spring-based and the movements are controlled and gentle on the joints, and the studio pairs it with a wide selection of mat Pilates, yoga-inspired and stretch classes. Groups stay small, and the atmosphere is quiet, with no mirror walls and no crowding at the equipment.

It suits you if

  • you want a small group and a facilitator who knows your name
  • you prefer a slow, controlled pace over high-intensity training
  • you are curious about reformer machines and want a gentle start

What the studio teaches

The studio's core offer is Reformer Pilates, a practice on a federbasierten machine that adjusts its resistance to each body. Classes like Reformer Pilates light and Reformer Pilates 70+ make the same machine accessible to people who are new to it or who want a gentler session.

Beyond the reformer, InBalance runs a broad set of mat-based classes. Pilates, Pilates & Faszien and Yogalates focus on the core and on body control, while Rücken, Nacken & Relax and Gymnastik auf dem Stuhl are built around the back, neck and shoulders. Stretch & Relax and Body & Mind lean toward calm and release.

The shape of the week

Most classes are open to all levels, and a good share of the timetable runs in the morning, with an early start from 7:30am. Evenings are also present, with the day's last class starting at 7:30pm, and the busiest start times fall at 8:30am, 10:15am, 3:30pm and 6pm. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays carry the most classes.

The studio sits in Halstenbek, and its own website describes a studio that wants the first hour to feel different from a typical gym visit: little noise, space at each machine and a facilitator who notices how you are moving.

InBalance: questions and answers

Is InBalance suitable for beginners?

Yes. Most of the classes at InBalance are open to all levels, and the studio also runs classes marked for a first class ever, as well as classes for people 60 and over. Reformer classes are offered in a lighter version too, so people new to the machine can start gently.

What kinds of classes does InBalance teach?

Reformer Pilates is the studio's own specialty: a spring-based machine that makes movements effective and gentle on the joints. Alongside it, InBalance offers a broad range of mat Pilates, Pilates & Faszien, Yogalates and Stretch & Relax, so there is a practice for most moods.

When do most people practice at InBalance?

Classes start as early as 7:30am and run until 7:30pm. Most of the week falls in the morning, and the busiest days are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, with the most popular start times around 8:30am, 10:15am, 3:30pm and 6pm.

How long are the classes?

Most classes last 50 or 60 minutes. Reformer and gymnastics-style classes tend to run 50 minutes, while Pilates, Yogalates, Stretch & Relax and Body & Mind run a full hour.

What is the atmosphere like?

InBalance is a boutique studio with small groups, so the facilitator learns names and individual strengths and limits. The studio has no mirror walls, no treadmill noise and no crowding around the equipment. Membership is by a ten-class card rather than a monthly contract, so you can book the classes that fit your week.
