How the evening runs

Most of these classes take place in the evening, when the day is winding down. Start times run from 5pm to 7:30pm, with the busiest slots at 6pm, 6:15pm, 6:30pm and 7:30pm. Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday are the days when most people practice, and weekend classes make up a smaller part of the schedule.

Yin is the style that appears most, with restorative and yoga nidra sessions alongside. Many classes are about an hour long, and a few run shorter or longer. Most are taught in French, and the level is generally open to everyone.

Studios and neighborhoods

Gotamyoga in Laënnec and Fauves Yoga Lyon in Saint-Georges are among the studios with the most classes here. Léa Yoga Lyon in Gros Caillou and Zenspace Yoga in Chevreul also run a steady timetable of calm sessions. The Good Flow Yoga in Les Brotteaux and Cocon Yoga in Les Girondins add bowl meditations and restorative practice, and tiny studio in Préfecture offers a gentle hatha and yin combination.

If you are choosing where to start, the Gotamyoga and Zenspace Yoga listings are a good place to look for a first class, with the studios' own descriptions giving a clear sense of pace and what to expect.

Calm after work: questions and answers

When do most calm classes start in Lyon?

Most of these calming classes start in the evening, with the busiest start times between 6pm and 7:30pm. The earliest begin at 5pm and the latest at 7:30pm. Weekends have a smaller share, and the busiest days are Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Are there gentle classes for beginners?

Yes. Gotamyoga in Laënnec offers YOGA DOUX, a gentle 60-minute class that the studio recommends for beginners and for anyone returning to yoga after a break. Léa Yoga Lyon and Cocon Yoga also run calm, restorative sessions in an easy pace.

Which styles are most common in this collection?

Yin yoga is one of the most common styles here, with holds of several minutes on the floor that work deep into the connective tissue. Fauves Yoga Lyon in Saint-Georges pairs a yin session with a sound bath, and Léa Yoga Lyon combines yin with yoga nidra in Gros Caillou. Zenspace Yoga in Chevreul runs a breathwork class if you want to focus on the breath.

Where can I find a sound bath?

Several studios run sound-based sessions. The Good Flow Yoga in Les Brotteaux offers a 60-minute bowl meditation with a drum and tuning forks, and Fauves Yoga Lyon has a yin class followed by a sound bath. Most classes last about an hour, though some run to 75 or 50 minutes.

Can I use a pass for these classes?

Yes. Wellpass, ClassPass and Urban Sports Club are all accepted for some of these classes, though only about a fifth of them take a pass. It is worth checking the booking page of the specific studio before you go.
