How the week runs

The studio offers dozens of classes a week with a few different starts through the day, though most begin after work. Vinyasa flow, yin and hot yoga anchor the timetable, and there are gentler options such as Gentle Flow and Yoga Hatha Doux. Power yoga, Ashtanga and Essentrics give a more demanding choice for those who want to build strength and mobility.

The busiest days are Tuesday, Sunday and Wednesday. Weekend classes make up about a fifth of the timetable, so a Sunday session is a regular option.

Languages and class lengths

Nearly all classes are taught in English. Several class descriptions are written in French, and the studio's own class names pair the two languages, such as Yin et Réparateur and Yin & Restorative. Most classes last an hour, with the longer Mysore Ashtanga and Sivananda sessions as the exception.

For a first visit, the studio's own descriptions of its classes are a good guide to what each session involves before you book.

Vibrations Om: questions and answers

Are the classes in English?

Yes. Nearly all classes at vibrationsom.com are taught in English, though some class descriptions are written in French. The studio on Victoria Street in Lachine runs vinyasa, hot yoga, yin and several gentler styles in English.

When do most people practice here?

Most classes begin in the evening, and the busiest start times are 6pm, 6:30pm and 8pm. Earlier options exist too, with a number of morning starts from 8am and a few at 9:45am. Late starts go as late as 8:15pm.

Where should a first-time visitor start?

Vinyasa, the flowing style where postures move with the breath, is one of the most common classes, along with calm and gentle options that suit a first visit. Flow Yoga (Vinyasa) and Gentle Flow are both listed with English descriptions. Yin, which holds postures for several minutes, is another easy place to begin.

Do they offer hot yoga?

Yes. Hot yoga is one of the studio's regular offerings, and Yin Chaud and Hot Power Yoga are both held in a heated room kept at around 30°C. It is a smaller share of the timetable than vinyasa or yin, but it is a steady part of the week.

How long are the classes?

Classes are usually an hour long. Mysore Ashtanga runs for 90 minutes and Sivananda Hatha runs for 80 minutes, so those are the longer options.

Who leads the classes?

The studio is a short distance from the Lachine waterfront. A couple of dozen facilitators lead classes here, and Juliette Oliver, Carole Cousineau and Alyssa Benchimol are among those who teach the most. Classes cover a range of styles, from Ashtanga and power yoga to Essentrics and gentle hatha.
