What the classes are

Hot yoga is the studio's main style, and it appears in most of the classes. Within it there is a wide range, from the fast, sweat-heavy sessions to slower hatha and yin classes. The express classes, around 45 minutes, are built around a single focus such as core, arms, shoulders, or lower body sculpting, and barre and Pilates-inspired work sits alongside them.

For a more restorative practice, the candlelight deep stretch and relaxation class runs 60 minutes and is one of the calmer options on the schedule.

How the week runs

Mornings and evenings each take up about a third of the week, and midday and weekend classes make up about a fifth each. Early starts are common, with many classes beginning around 5:30am and 6:30am. The most popular start times are noon and 1pm, with other classes spread across the evening.

Tuesday, Thursday and Friday are the busiest days, so those are the days with the most classes to choose from. The studio does not offer a pass, so each class is booked on its own.

Who leads the classes

A couple of dozen facilitators lead the classes, and several teach often. Tanya, Leyla, Rima, Kristina, Hayley, Danielle, Shea, Tramaine, Rebecca and Tosh are the facilitators with the most classes, so each one brings a regular rhythm to the schedule.

Oxygen Yoga & Fitness - North Whitby: questions and answers

What kind of classes does this studio teach?

Most classes at this studio are hot yoga, and more than half are built around sweat. Hot yoga is practiced in a heated room, and the classes range from hatha and power yoga to yin, barre and Pilates-inspired work.

When do most people practice here?

Classes begin as early as 5:30am and run as late as 9:30pm. Mornings and evenings each hold about a third of the week, and the busiest start times fall around 5:30am, 6:30am, noon and 1pm.

How long are the classes?

Most classes run about 45 minutes, which makes them easy to fit between work and the rest of the day. Some longer classes run about 60 minutes, including deep stretch, hatha and Pilates-inspired sessions.

Is this studio a good place to start if I am new to hot yoga?

Yes. Hatha, yin and the candlelight deep stretch and relaxation class are slower and more restorative, and they suit someone new to hot yoga. Tanya, Leyla, Rima and Kristina are among the facilitators with the most classes, so there are plenty of options to try.

What if I want to focus on specific areas of the body?

The studio has a few classes that focus on strength, core, arms and shoulders, and other classes built around flexibility, mobility and neck and shoulders. Barre fusion and Pilates-inspired core work are also on the schedule.
