What the classes are

The program is built around strong classes. A third of what is on offer is energy-led training, and about a fifth is strength. Bodypump is described as a full-body session with moderate weights and high repetitions, and strength class, max out and booty burn class work on specific muscle groups at the squat rack and machines.

Alongside that, there is a steady run of yoga, pilates and calmer sessions. Hatha yoga, the classic form of yoga, moves through strong positions held in stillness, and pilates works on balance, stability and core strength. Smaller numbers of qigong and tai chi, gong and bowls, meditation and flexibility classes round out the list.

When classes run

Most classes run between 7:30am and 9:30pm. The schedule is busiest on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, and the club is open from 7am to 10pm on weekdays and from 8am to 9pm at weekends. The biggest share of the week falls in the morning and the evening, with a smaller share at midday and on weekends.

Classes usually last about 50 minutes, with 30-minute sessions for shorter strength and HIIT work. Aqua classes take place in the pool, and the club has a sauna area and rooftop terrace near the studio spaces.

Holmes Place Berlin Gendarmenmarkt: questions and answers

Where is holmes place Berlin Gendarmenmarkt?

The studio sits on Friedrichstraße in Mitte, at the entrance on Mohrenstraße, close to the Gendarmenmarkt. It is one of several holmes place clubs in Berlin, alongside the ones on Bismarckstraße, Ostkreuz, Schlossstraße, Potsdamer Platz and Neue Welt.

When do most people practice here?

The timetable is built around work hours. Most classes start in the morning, around a third, and around a third in the evening. The busiest start times are 9am, 12:30pm, 4pm and 5:30pm, and classes usually last about 50 minutes.

Are there yoga classes?

Yes. Yoga is part of the course list, with hatha yoga and vinyasa on the timetable, along with pilates and meditation. Strength and strong classes make up most of the program, so yoga sits alongside more physical training.

Is it good for beginners?

The class list includes a few classes marked as a first class ever and a few for all levels, such as pilates and hatha yoga. Hatha yoga is described as slow, with strong positions held in stillness, so it is a good place to begin.
