A morning practice that leads with strength
Most of the classes in this collection are early, and nearly all start before 9am. The busiest start times cluster between 6am and 7:30am, so most people here are practicing before the day has properly begun. A few studios run a class around 7:45am, which is the latest start in the set.
The mix leans toward Pilates and reformer work, with strength and core and pelvic floor training appearing often. Yoga is present but less common, and the vinyasa and hot flow classes are a smaller part of the schedule.
Where the classes are and who leads them
Four studios carry most of the classes: 4S Ranch, The Grand Pilates in New Encinitas, Asteya Collective in Pacific Serena and Rancho Valencia in Fairbanks Ranch. A couple of dozen facilitators lead the classes, with Hannah Brockhuis, Alena, Ellie and Jennifer Meirhofer among those who teach the most.
At The Grand Pilates, Reformer FLOW is a contemporary, athletic class built around sculpting and toning. Asteya Collective offers Hot Flow Fusion, a heated vinyasa class, and Barre-lates, a low-impact class that blends barre and Pilates. Rancho Valencia runs intermediate tower and mat Pilates at 50 minutes.
