Calm after work in Encinitas
Encinitas has a calm evening practice that many people turn to after a full day. The classes lean toward yin, restorative yoga and sound baths, with candlelit rooms and gentle music. They are slow and quiet, and they are built to help the body and mind settle. Most begin in the early evening and last about an hour.
Where to start: Soul of Yoga in Pacific Serena, Sattva Yoga Center or Rancho Valencia in Fairbanks Ranch

What an evening here looks like
The evening is where this collection lives. Nearly all of these classes begin after 5pm, and the most common start times are 5:15pm, 5:30pm, 6pm and 7pm. The busiest days are Monday, Wednesday and Sunday. About a fifth of the classes fall on weekends, so a Sunday class can be a good way to end the weekend as well as the workday.
Almost every class is a calm, slow practice. Yin holds postures for longer, restorative classes rest the body with props, and somatic flow moves slowly with breathwork. Many classes also include sound healing, with crystal bowls, gong and chimes, and some add meditation or breathwork at the end.
Where to practice and who leads
Soul of Yoga in Pacific Serena offers the largest share of these classes. Its candlelit restorative, yin and somatic sessions, some with sound healing, are a clear fit for this collection. Sattva Yoga Center offers a longer evening yin class of 90 minutes. Rancho Valencia in Fairbanks Ranch offers a soundbath meditation, and Mello Yoga and Asteya Collective add yin and meditation sessions, with Asteya Collective also in Pacific Serena.
Most of these classes last about an hour. A few restorative and sound classes run closer to 75 minutes, and one yin class runs 90 minutes. Facilitators such as Belinda Pearl, Bloom Clemons and Merry Trentadue appear among those leading the most classes in the collection.
Calm after work: questions and answers
When do most calm after work classes start?
Most of the calm after work classes in Encinitas begin in the evening, and nearly all of them do. The earliest start in this collection is 5:15pm and the latest is 7pm, with 7pm, 5:30pm, 5:15pm and 6pm the start times that come up most. Classes last about an hour, and a few run a little longer.
What kinds of classes are in this collection?
Yin is the style that comes up most in this collection, alongside restorative and somatic flow. Yin holds postures for longer, which suits a body that has been sitting and busy all day. Restorative classes use props and long rests, and sound baths at Soul of Yoga and Rancho Valencia add gong, bowls and chimes to the stillness.
Which studios should I look at first?
Soul of Yoga in Pacific Serena has the most classes in this collection, and the candlelit restorative and yin classes there are a good match for an evening after work. Sattva Yoga Center has an evening yin class of 90 minutes. Rancho Valencia in Fairbanks Ranch offers a soundbath meditation, and Mello Yoga and Asteya Collective, also in Pacific Serena, add yin and meditation sessions.
Are these classes good for beginners?
Yes. Many of these classes are gentle and are built for all levels, and several are designed for people who are new to yoga. Restorative and sound bath classes ask for little more than lying down and breathing. Your facilitator can show you how to use props so that you are comfortable from the start.
