Yoga with a gentle center
Most of what livija offers is yoga, with a clear emphasis on classes that are gentle and calm and suitable for all levels. Vinyasa Flow brings together moving sequences with conscious breath, sometimes soft and sometimes more powerful, while Yin Yoga holds postures for longer and asks the body to rest into them. A smaller number of classes include meditation, breathwork and mobility and stretch work.
The classes are built around particular needs. Several are for back, neck and shoulder tension, one is aroma yoga with essential oils, and Beginner Yoga introduces the basic postures and breath at a careful pace.
Classes for women and families
A large share of the classes here focus on women's health. There is yoga for endometriosis and menstrual discomfort that also explores knowing your cycle, as well as a Feelgood Womens Flow that moves between endometriosis yoga, somatic yoga and soft vinyasa.
For pregnancy and early parenthood, prenatal yoga, parent and child classes and postnatal practice are offered alongside kinderyoga for children from about five to ten years old, which is described as a gentle space for children to move and relax.
The shape of the week
Classes run mostly in the evening, with busy start times around 6:15pm, 7:30pm, 5pm and 5:30pm, and a few on weekends. Tuesday, Monday and Friday tend to be the fullest days, and a small number of morning classes begin from 10am.
The studio is in Volksdorf, a neighborhood on the northeastern edge of Hamburg, and most classes are about an hour long.
