Practices and styles

YAMA YOGA's classes lean toward the traditional and the steady. Hatha yoga appears in several forms, including a Rishikesh-style series based on the Sivananda tradition, while Vinyasa flows, Yin yoga and a blend called From Flow to Slow sit alongside them. Back yoga, with its focus on strengthening and mobilizing the muscles around the spine, is one of the studio's clearer specialties.

The studio also offers a range of other forms. Ecstatic Dance is a movement class without set steps, and Candlelight Vinyasa is a special evening held once a month on a Friday. Stabile Mitte, which centers on the core, gives another option for those who want a more structured class.

How the week runs

Most classes take place in the evening, with a smaller share in the morning and a small share on weekends. The busiest days are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Earliest starts are at 8am, while the latest ones begin at 8pm.

The studio's facilitators include Anja, Annika, Claudia, Sabrina, Laura and Tanja, who together lead the classes across the week. Classes are taught in German.

YAMA YOGA: questions and answers

Is YAMA YOGA a good place to start if I am new to yoga?

Yes. The studio runs yoga for all levels, and it also offers a first-class series called Yoga Basic that builds from one session to the next. Hatha, Vinyasa, back yoga and Yin yoga are all on the list, so a first visit can be gentle or more active depending on what you choose.

When do most people practice at YAMA YOGA?

Most classes run in the evening, with the busiest starts at 7pm, 6pm and 5pm. There are also morning classes, with the earliest start at 8am, and a smaller share of weekend sessions.

Are there classes for children?

Yes, there is a children's class for ages 3 to 6, where each child practices with a favorite grown-up. The studio also offers parent and child sessions, so families can find a class that fits.

How long are the classes?

Classes at YAMA YOGA usually last about 75 minutes. Some longer sessions run 90 minutes, and a few shorter ones run 60.

Where is the studio and how do I get there?

The studio sits on Otto-Hahn-Straße in Ottobrunn, close to Hohenbrunn and the other towns of the southeast of Munich. It is reachable by car or by bus 210, which suits people living in these neighborhoods.

How do I book a class and what should I bring?

The studio's own page says classes are booked online by clicking on the chosen session, and payment cannot be made at the studio. Cancellations are free up to 24 hours before a class starts, and the page suggests bringing your own mat if you can.
