What the short classes are
Short classes in Santa Cruz are mostly strength, Pilates and core work. Strong classes make up about half of what runs, and Pilates is the other half, with reformer Pilates, mat Pilates and Pilates Intermediate Flow all in the mix. Core and pelvic floor classes are a common thread, and there are a few kids classes, some barre and a handful built for experienced practitioners.
The Club at Los Gatos, Miel Pilates and RockSalt Santa Cruz have among the most classes. Hot Elevation Studios in Capitola and Santa Cruz Athletic Club in Santa Cruz add heated and sweat-focused formats like hot sculpt 45, cycle and Hot Pilates Express. Sol Hot Yoga in Scotts Valley offers hot yoga for those who prefer it.
How the week runs
Mornings are where most of the short classes happen, with more than half of the schedule before noon and about a third before 9am. The busiest start times are 6am, 8:30am, 5pm and 5:30pm, and the latest start is 7pm. Weekends are quieter, with only about one in ten classes falling on a Saturday or Sunday.
Capitola and Santa Cruz hold most of the classes, with Rio Del Mar and Scotts Valley close behind. Dozens of facilitators lead these classes, and Emi Reese, Lara Farwell, Taylor Keenan and Anthony Angulo teach a good share of them. Most classes run 45 minutes, and none of the classes here take a pass, so you can book each one directly.
